Ah yes, who could forget cheeky Jim Davidson and his range of hilarious Caribbean accents, or the liberal use of terms like "nig-nog" on peak-time TV? All just BANTZ of course, no offence lads! Same as this modern day harmless homophobia. Nobody's offended, surely! It's just WORDS, right...?
Some people on this thread would do well to watch Out Of Their Skin, as broadcast recently on BBC4 (I'm sure there's probably been a thread about it on here). Astounding and deeply saddening to see and hear what those pioneering players had to go through. I daresay current players and fans who fall into the LGBT category must experience similar emotions and fears at times (although thankfully homophobic abuse doesn't generally seem to be quite so widespread as some of the racial abuse appeared to be).
