Brighton
Stockdale 7 - Solid as usual

Bruno 6
Ribgewell 4 - For me, less than average left back performance today.

Goldson 8 - Growing
Dunk 7

Kayak 5 - Would have got more but was very lucky to still be on the pitch by half time.
Stephens 4 - First time I thought he was worse than average
Knockaert 9 - Quality
Murphy 5

Hemed 4 - It's just completely unacceptable that he is beaten to 60/40 balls often
Zamora 7

Wilson 7 - Needs to get back to full fitness
Lua Lua 6 - More game time under his belt
Crofts 6

I dread to think how this game would have gone if we hadn't signed Knockaert

Ref just terrible, fortunately as anyone else would have sent Kayal off.

Officials - 4 - missed a blatant handball by their keeper

Assuming you are talking about the one in the first half I look more or less right down that line from the north stand and I think the ball span into the area just as he caught it so I don't think it was handball

Three hours ago, Ridgewell was only marginally better than Calde, who according to you was a liability..........

I thought that he was a slight improvement on Calderon ......................................... but generally as a stop gap he will do.

Now he is suddenly a better left back than Rosenior?

Ridgewell .............................................the best fill in since Bong injury.

So, which one is it? Or are you in two minds??

Stockdale 7 Supremely confident but distribution not quite as superb as usual

Bruno 6.5 A quieter game but very solid
Dunk 7 Very solid
Goldson 7.5 In real danger of becoming my favourite centreback. Very calm and composed
Ridgewell 6 Solid but unspectacular. Did alright but offered no attacking threat

Murphy 6 Needs a break I think. Seems a little tired but invaluable clearance off the line
Kayal 7 Did well considering he was on a booking from early in the first half
Stephens 5 Not great before the knock, anonymous afterwards
Knockaert 8.5 A ruthless winger. Bustling with confidence and CAN CROSS!

Hemed 6 A real grafter an creates space for other strikers on the pitch but doesn't look like he'll ever score a goal again at the moment
Zamora 7 Another start, another goal. Haven't seen him move that fast since 2001.

Subs:
Crofts 6.5 Solid and broke up play well
Wilson 7 Lovely header but looks better when played with Zamora
Lua Lua 7.5 Really lively, went at his man, got their man sent off. Very promising.

Manager 8 Got the subs spot on and changed the game but how much more dangerous do we look with 2 live wire, pacy wingers?

Ref 2 Did his best to ruin the game. So many tiny, petty stoppages and never let the game flow. Didn't seem to understand the advantage rule either. This applies to both sides.

Once again we concede a goal right at the end of the first half. Hughton definitely needs to address that problem. Decent enough game and the right result, but will we EVER win a game by more than a one goal margin?

Stockdale 6. Good enough game apart from some wayward distribution. Not much to deal with in the way of shots.
Bruno 7. Good solid defending and got forward a bit. Best season he's had for us by far. Getting better with age!
Goldson 8. A real find. So pleased he's had an opportunity to break into the starting line-up. Calm, mature defending and decent passing. Greer will be on the bench when fit.
Dunk 7. Almost back to his best. Marked down a point for one piece of madness which could easily have cost us a goal.
Ridgewell 5. Was expecting better. At fault for allowing the cross for their goal. Didn't really get forward. Not sure he's much better than Calderon at LB. We'll see.
Kayal 7. Not his best game, but decent enough. Probably restricted by the early booking and another ref could possibly have given him a second yellow.
Stephens 5. Not at his best.
Murphy 6. Frustrating. Played better in a more central role in the second half.
Knockaert 8. MOM. What an addition to the squad! A proper winger who can beat his man and deliver a decent cross. Assists for both goals with perfect drosses. A couple of overhit passes and crosses early on when he was maybe getting used to the pitch?!
Hemed 4. Not really good enough to start.
Zamora 7. His ball control let him down on a few occasions early on, but a great goal and some decent hold up play. Surprised he was subbed so early, but the subs worked.

Subs:
Crofts 5. OK.
Wilson 7. Excellent goal and maybe back to his best.
Lua Lua 7. Didn't see much of the ball, but great run resulting in the sending off and good to have him back.

Stockdale 7 Distribution not as good as usual but I'm giving him an extra mark for his ball skillz. Could be enough for a DVD by the end of the season
Bruno 7
Goldson 7
Dunk 7
Ridgewell 5. Off the pace
Kayal 6 looks tired
Stephens 5.5 ditto
Murphy 6
Knockaert 8 MoM. Class & superb attitude
Hemed 5.5
Zamora 7 Great movement for the goal. & can't believe he ran that far

Crofts 6
Wilson 6.5 Well taken goal but he's not fit, is he?
Kaz Great to have him back

On current form I'd actually put Crofts in ahead of Stephens at the moment, Dale looks absolutely gassed and has lost his early season form, Crofts looks full of energy and he's playing some neat football.
In my opinion Goldson was not at fault for Huddersfield's goal, it was Stephens that lost his man.
I love Beram Kayal.
I love Anthony Knockaert.
I really love Bobby Zamora.

Stockdale 6 - Helpless for the goal, distribution not to his usual ridiculous standard.
Bruno 7 - Couldn't attack too much but pretty sound defensively.
Goldson 7.5 - I really like the look of this kid, and he's clearly settling in.
Dunk 7.5 - That's the Dunk we like too see, aggressive, assured and LEADING the defence.
Ridgewell 5.5 - Tough home debut against an impressive Huddersfield but he's clearly playing out of position. A lot to be said about how he behaves on the pitch, very much a positive influence with his communication.
Murphy 6 - Bizarre player, not particularly quick in a straight line but seems rapid when changing direction, he's difficult to stop when he's weaving between players but gets brushed aside in a straight foot race. Better when upfront.
Kayal 7.5 - Clearly enjoying having weapons to use again e.g Knockaert and Kaz
Stephens 5.5 - Seems knackered.
Knockaert 8 - My word.
Hemed 5 - Meh.
Bobby 7 - Who knew he still had afterburners

Crofts 7 - Steady as you like.
Kaz 6.5 - Bit rusty but fantastic to see him back.
Wilson 7 - Still clearly suffering from his illness, but he was presented 1 opportunity, he took it, he enjoyed it, he won us 3 points.

Stockdale. 6 - no chance with their goal & not too much else to do but distribution not up to his usual standard. Gets a point for that chest out and punt from outside the box
Bruno. 6 - steady. Seemed more reluctant to go forward & as a result defended better than sometimes against a side with pace
Goldson. 6 - no mistakes and good positional play. He & Dunk combined well to keep Wells & Lolley quiet
Dunk 6 - steady. Benefitted from Ridgewell's verbal support
Ridgewell 5 - gave them too much space out wide but never stopped talking Dunk through the game & looked better when KLL came on & he had some cover
Kayal. 7 - non stop. Looked back to his best defensively and, especially, when released further forward
Stephens 6 - hope the knock clears quickly. Led directly to their goal as he couldn't track back but before that looked aggressive and involved
Murphy 6 - Not an out & out winger & looks better when he can get inside and get more involved. Good goal-line clearance from a corner but defensive cover isn't his forte.
Knockaert 8 - great all action display. Needs to be greedier sometimes but overall looks a great signing
Hemed 6 - don't really understand his knockers. He worked ceaselessly and was unlucky not to get through a couple of times. A confidence striker who needs a break or two but his energy & commitment create space for others to exploit even if it's not working for him
Zamora 7 - gets a point for the goal - beautifully taken. Unusual how often he was caught offside

Crofts 6 - fitted in pretty seamlessly which is a real bonus for the run in
Wilson 7 - a couple of runs and a well taken goal. Didn't look fit but when he is his pace will give defences problems. If he can add upper body strength he will be quality in years to come
LuaLua 7 - oh how we have missed the new reincarnation of KLL. Since adding defensive discipline to his repertoire he offers everything a team can ask for. His runs forward frighten defences and if we didn't go for the corners to see out matches instead of looking to create chances we could have seen that elusive win by more than one goal.

I didnt like or want Rosenior at left back as I thought he was wasted there and only slightly better than Calderon and Ridgewell was at least on par if not slightly better. So Ridgewell is the best since Bong ws injured, CH one big mistake not bringing a specialist left back in to replace Bong short term. He has put his faith in utilising players in not their normal position, which nobody will convince me was the correct move.

Shows how opinions can vary a lot. I thought it was the worst game I ha d seen Kayal play and would only give him a 4, but Goldson I thought was supurb and worth at least a 7

Ridgewell 6 Average no better then Calderon
Dunk 7
Goldson 7
Stevens 6
Kayal 7 Concerned after nearly sent of he would hold back. All credit kept going
Murphy 7
Zamora 6 Very poor apart from goal
Hemed 4 Never give credit for running around and apart from that did nothing
Knockaert 7.5 Just what we need. Entertaining going forward and put good shift in defending

Lua Lua 7 We pay our money to be entertained and he does that. Only player since Ward where crowd comes alive when he gets ball

Stockdale 6 Rarely in the game but when called on did his job
Bruno 7 Another decent performance
Ridgewell 6 Did okay but should close down better with his experience. At fault for cross coming in when they scored
Dunk 8 Much improved (would have been a 9 but for the lapse that nearly let them back in it)
Goldson 7 Looking more assured with every game
Knockaert 9 My MoM, what a signing
Kayal 8 Marshalled our midfield well
Stephens 6 Not on long enough really but we missed his 'fetching and carrying' a bit
Murphy 5 Sometimes I forget he's on the pitch. This was one such game
Zamora 8 Beautifully taken goal and always trying to get involved
Hemed 6 Tries hard but isn't doing enough for me. Needs replacing soon

Subs:
Crofts 7 Played well I thought and broke up some threatening moves
Wilson 8 Still looks unwell but a well-taken goal and lots to admire about his play. Needs to beef up a bit though
Lualua 8 Terrified their defence at times and forced the red card.

Wilson 7 Looked like he was going to chuch up again. Fully fit and he has to start alongside Bobby

Do you ever give up? It is so boring going on and on about the same thing. Maybe we should have bought all the left backs in the world in order to guarantee cover in that position.

I think you lack basic understanding of budgeting. The club have limited amount of money to spend. There was an attempt to sign a left back from the sound of it but nobody was available at the time. We bought in Van La Parra, clearly he was an extra wing option so Rosenior could play at left back only. This is a player who played left back in an FA Cup Final for Hull little over a year before. We were unlucky he got injured immediately after the window closed.

How can you say it's a mistake when you have no idea how hard they looked for a left back, how much effort we made to sign one and who was available?

Back of the North Stand
Picked out just a few...

Ridgewell - 4 - well off the pace. Should have at least attempted to stop the cross for their goal. Out of position and gave the ball away far too much.
Goldson - 7 - seemlessly slotted into CB position. Real competition when GG and z-German return.
Kayak - 6 - looks like he's in need of a rest. Whomever comes in, and it looks likely to be Sidwell will be needed to be up to scratch because we have the best central midfield partnership in the league.
Knockaert - 8 - it was a very good home debut, two assists, hit the post and arguably deserved a goal. Grow into the game and already seems to have an understanding with Bruno. However, disappointing corners. Every time they failed to beat the first man.
Lua-Lua - 7 - his pace and in particular acceleration scared the hell out of Huddersfield. A couple of great runs shows he's getting back to his best. If he wasn't pulled down for that red card I think we would have scored again. Really need him and Bong together again firing on all cylinders.
