Howard Webb

Thought Webb was awful. Eto'o fouling Suarez, RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, and choosing to ignore it was horrendous. Eto'o arguably could've been sent off in the first few minutes due to a bad tackle, and Terry fouled Suarez in the box before clearing the ball away. Oscar's two footed lunge on Lucas would've seen a red anywhere else. Poor refereeing I think cost Liverpool points and gave a thuggish Chelsea team the maximum yet again.

No not at all.
You stated "Raheem Sterling missing an easy chance in the 2nd half was as much responsible for Liverpool losing at Man City as the linesman was for flagging for offside against Sterling in the 1st half when he made the classic mistake of flagging on the basis of where the attacker was when he received the ball rather than where he was when it was played." quote

I just pointed out that had the onside goal, which was a perfectly good goal, stood, then this, in your words "was as much responsible for Liverpool losing at Man City"

Had Sterling scored that goal it could have been 3-2, but he didn't.

It comes down to elementary mathematics:

Manchester City 2, Liverpool 1 + disallowed goal = 2
Manchester City 2, Liverpool 1 + Sterling scoring instead of missing easy chance = 2

Ignoring Sterling's inability to score (we know that) and the keepers inexplicable handling (we know and saw that as well) and the fact that this COULD have contributed to a different result, had they not happened, but they DID. Then a perfectly good goal, whether it was a mistake by the lino, DID affect the final result, which happened to be 2-1.

Absolutely. The fact the linesman making an error that disallowed a perfectly good goal contributed to the outcome isn't being disputed. But it is myopic to think that is the only thing that stopped Liverpool taking points from the game and Mignolet's error and Sterling's miss were also critical to the result. That is all I am saying!

Lots of challenges would have been punished much more harshly had they been red on blue.
Imagine if Suarez had done what Eto'o did to Henderson?
If Lucas had done what Terry did to Allen?
Red cards would have been out immediately.
Too many officials are deciding games, and Webb is supposed to be one of the best???????

Guys...who cares...really?

Suarez has a reputation so will never get a decision if there's any doubt whatsoever, sterling is a great little player but needs to mature a bit and both teams, Liverpool and Chelsea, are not in the same league financially, physically or professionally as Brighton and Hove Albion...so who CARES?

Now if we win promotion...it's a different matter.

If the linesmans mother had kept her legs shut on the night he was conceived then he would never have been born and another linesman would have made a decision based on what he saw and not what he thought he saw.
You are just being pedantic.

Everyone's being pedantic! The problem is that everyone will weight things to suit their agenda and I sense there is possibly a hidden one in play here which is that people are not up in arms that the referee has cost made some bad decisions in matches that affected the outcome for Corinthian fair play reasons, but that these decisions played a part in a team they don't like getting a result that they feel they wouldn't have got otherwise.

That's was why I started the thread. Couldn't give a fig about Liverpool but it was so obvious that Webb should be made to answer some of the questions publicly. How he could be so close but fail to give the correct decisions is beyond believable. It's tantamount to corrupt. He must like Russian money

Was pretty blatant wasn't it. Mind you Webb has been pro Man U against Liverpool......maybe Webb does not like Liverpool, seems the common denominator.

Referees and their assistants have to make decisions based on what they thought they saw, they don't really have a chance to test the reality of their perception in the middle of a game. If they think they saw something, they wave their flag or blow their whistle. Most of the time what they think they saw is what they saw. But as humans, and due to the nature of the game (moving bodies, changing perspective, etc), they will occasionally make mistakes. All we can expect is that they are honest in their intent.

There may be one or two who are allowing a dislike of liverpool/like of chelsea to colour their reading of the game. There are more people who just are detached enough to be fair and understand that there are 22 starting players, up to 6 substitutes, and two managers who make thousands of decisions over the course of 90+ minutes that all come together to determine the result of a game of football. One decision by one official is not the thing that determines the result of a game, but the culmination of all those decisions (can probably include decisions from ball boys or fans on how fast or slow they return balls for throws etc, if you want to be thorough). Of course, we often forget that when it involves our team, in which case the ref is to blame, partly from those who don't want to criticise their team, partly from those who refuse to admit their team just weren't good enough. But when it's not your team, you're often more able to see the the mistakes the players made, and the effect those mistakes had on the outcome.

He is a cheat.Pure and simple.
He was scared of Fergie, now he's scared of Jose.
A pathetic excuse for a man.

There lies the problem.
Don't forget Webb is Old Bill.
He is used to being right when he is right, and right when he is wrong.

Whoever you support, unless you are a Liverpool hater or a Chelsea lover, there were decisions made that were blatantly wrong and had no excuses.
No players blocking the view,no hailstones in his eyes, just either very poor decisions,in which case he should be demoted a long way down.Or blatant cheating.
You decide.

I think the referees are on a hiding to nothing. They have to make instantaneous calls whereas we get the benefit of five different angles within a minute.

That's true, but its the poor decisions that happen right in front of the ref and are blatantly obvious at any speed. Howard Webb had 2 of those and gave nothing. He is either useless, scared to give decisions against the home team or cheating (or worse, but I wont mention that word on here)

Strange though that officials in football fight against help from technology tooth and nail.
They are so arrogant that they don't want to be proved to be wrong.
