Chemical Ben: The fact it's a 'hard decision' is in itself and admission. If he was committed to us (like Peter Taylor is to Hull) he'd have turned them down flat.

I agree with Mr Chemical - it is because he does feel committed that he is having a hard time deciding between more money, shiny new stadium, more money, div 1 and possibly prem football, more money and us with restricted finances, eastern european ground and less (much less) money.

If he wasn't committed the decision would be a no-brainer - go to Reading

Bizarre bunch, some of you!

Coppell has already decided that he would prefer to manage Reading than Brighton. Why go and have talks with a club that you don't want to manage?

Surely that must rile you enough?

If he doesn't go to Reading, it'd be because we can't offer him enough reassurances for the demands that he'd want. Not financially, but as financial backup should anything go wrong while he'd be in management at Reading.

He has already decided that he'd prefer to move on, so I wouldn't be that happy, from your point of view!

But if he stayed with BHA then there's every chance that you could continue as you left off. Though you would know that he is prepared to jump ship at any such opportunity...

I think the word is "hmm..."

You spin away Wilts.

The alternative spin, and a little worrying from a Reading perspective, is that SC hasn't jumped at the offer to manage Reading.

I think the word is "hmmm..."

I dont agree with that, dude.

It was an easy decision for Taylor to make. He's got loadsa money, a fantastic stadium and a great team at Hull, so by saying no to Reading all he did was make the fans love him. It wasn't a hard decision. He could quite easily take Hull up this season and next season. Hull are a massive sleeping giant that has finally risen, the job at Reading is risky and demands at least the playoffs in a division full of quality teams.

Coppell by contrast has not built his team here, does not have loads of money and does not have a great stadium which is the key to money and therefore potential. He'll get it in 2 or 3 years but that's a long time in football.

f*** am I making sense?

Get real.

Many (most?) of us have a contract of employment and many of us would be flattered if another company came looking for us and offered us the oportunity to talk about a new job - and many of us would go and talk about it if we were interested enough.

We'd owe it to ourselves, our family and our future and we'd be foolish not to even have a look, and if we liked what we saw, we'd try and talk them into giving us a better deal.

SC is no different to any of us in this respect and I for one am glad that we have an ambitious manager, and one who is so good at his job that he attracts the attention of others.

I'd be more worried if nobody admired him, nobody wanted him and if he was un-ambitious.

Having said that - I want SC to stay (irrespective of whether he's been talking to Reading or not) and as I keep saying - he hasn't gone yet !!

Im not sure I want him now anyway. He has proved that any wiff of a better job and he is likely to go. I would rather give the job to Booker, take the 150k money and give it to Prescott

Sorry, I don't buy this "it's a better job so of course he's torn" idea. Yes it IS a better job - but why didn't he do the decent thing and leave in the summer? I'll tell you why - because he didn't think he'd get a better job. He thought he'd been tainted by our relegation (after all he only had to move us 3 places up the table) and no one would want him. Because we've had a good start he's been offered a better job. We were just an insurance policy, a better option than being unemployed.

At the end of the day all he is doing is having talks, jeeesus! Its a free country isnt it?

If Coppell stays I will be delighted.

For me, the most important thing is the success of the Albion.

The players love him, we are top of the league, he has made some extremely shrewd signings and has got the best out of players who previously looked shite - stand up Butters and McPhee.

How can anyone be pissed off that he has even thought about the job offer? he would be very foolish not to listen to reading, but he might just decide its not for him. whats the harm in that?

Look at Charlton, Curbishley put himself forward quite publically for both the Spurs and previously the West Ham jobs.... and they still love him.

If he goes however, I will be pissed off with him, but I will be very frustrated at this continuing saga of our managers whoring themselves to every club with stadium with 4 sides.

A bit of clarity in a murky world....<actually quite a lot...well done>

Assuming SC stays..*strokes chin thoughtfully..* then so what if he gets linked/offered other jobs in the future...?
He's already been linked with most other vacancies since he's been here, and hadn't gone...
Reading is prob one of the best 'up and coming' club's that he's been linked with, and if they don't get him, then why should he go to anyone else...?

A tough decision between us and Reading...considering it all <at present> thats quite a f***ing compliment...

Well we're just going to have to agree to disagree I think. Either he's got something 'really special' here or he hasn't. This IS a challenge, he's already managed at the highest level so that can't be his overriding concern. He must have known a half-decent start with us and he'd be approached by a bigger club. Sorry, he's just used us.

Timmy baby, what would you have liked SC to have said when we asked him to stay?

"No, sorry, if I get offered a job in division one next season I'll think about it so I'm not going to stay here, I'm just going to sit on my arse doing sod all and wait for the phone to ring"?

DK didn't seem to think Coppell was something 'really special' last year otherwise he wouldn't have given the job to Gimpshelwood first.

I think there are 2 factors that have caused Coppell to really take his time over this:

Firstly he's probably thinking "If I leave and go to Reading, and 2 months later the Albion get the planning permission for Falmer - how gutted will I be"

But at the same time he's probably wondering " If I turn Reading down and Falmer doesn't come off - what are my chances of getting another job"

I honestly think he wants to stay, but is worried about his heart ruling his head!
