How would you react IF SC turned Reading down

Bizarre bunch, some of you!

Coppell has already decided that he would prefer to manage Reading than Brighton. Why go and have talks with a club that you don't want to manage?

Surely that must rile you enough?

Sorry Wilts, no it doesn't

I was employed by one company for 25 years. I investigated several other jobs in that time. Interviews etc. I decided not to take those jobs because they weren't as well paid or convenient for me.

Everybody looks at other jobs when they have one because we all think the grass is greener. Quite often it isn't.

If he doesn't go to Reading, it'd be because we can't offer him enough reassurances for the demands that he'd want. Not financially, but as financial backup should anything go wrong while he'd be in management at Reading.

He has already decided that he'd prefer to move on, so I wouldn't be that happy, from your point of view!

But if he stayed with BHA then there's every chance that you could continue as you left off. Though you would know that he is prepared to jump ship at any such opportunity...

I think the word is "hmm..."

But give the faffing about over this, and the fact that RFC publically committed themselves to an unveilling on Tuesday or Wednesday that now is not happening, it could be (and I admit to clutchoing at a few straws here) that the negotiations have hit a glitch and could fall through.

Given Coppells assurances LAST week about putting the whole issue on the back burner while he concentrated on preparing a team to go top of the league, and that he was "torn" over the issue, the best thing for HIM to say (and I think it has to come from him, not the clubs) is that he has or has not agreed to take the Reading job and that the only hold-up is discussing the compensation/personal details. Because the longer this goes on without anyone saying anything, then the lmore disruptive the whole situation becomes AND WE HAVE A BIG GAME ON SATURDAY.

Well if this is the case then surely brighton are entitled to make a statement saying Coppell has pledged his future to the club.

If he does not go to Reading then it will only be a matter of time before another 1st Div club sacks their manager / manager walks out on them, and comes after him. We can't go through this again every time that happens.

If he were to last till the summer he would be out of contract and probably one of the relegated premiership teams or failed div 1 promotion sides would be sniffing around. He has made it clear that he is looking to move on. Best rid of him and get some stability back in the club for the rest of this season at least!

Get real everyone - we all know that the grass is always greener, and every one of us would carefully consider a move if we were headhunted. When it comes to the crunch we all look after number one. If, by some miracle, he decided to stay then I wouldn't blame him for talking to Reading, but I would say that Madejski would lose a lot of credibility with Reading fans if he couldn't prise someone away to the brand spanking new stadium and deep pockets of his from groundless, and therefore potless, little old Brighton...(bloody Archer grrr)

The original question - I'd cheer, swear and probably faint.

There may be legal reasons why we can't do that, untill Reading make an announcement !!

Copied and pasted from the BBC site

Reading's director of football Nicky Hammond had earlier refused to confirm Coppell as Reading's number one target.

Hammond said: "The board know who they want and we have been working hard over the weekend to try to resolve it.

"Things moved on over the weekend and we should be able to announce something on Tuesday or Wednesday."

hhmmm??

I now want him to go. He has shown that he doesn't really want this job and the next so-called bigger club managerial post that becomes vacant, he will be linked with.

If he were to announce a complete change of heart and that he is staying with our Albion, then he would have to work extremely hard to win back the fans trust and probably have to sign a long contract with the club. Which let's face it, isn't going to happen.

I have no feelings towards Coppell after the current events, just like I had non towards Taylor and Adams.

We are bigger than all these three and it will still be OUR Albion.

Worthing
1. I would be absolutely delighted
2. I would be happy that I didn't overreact to every supposition posted as a fact
3. I would be prepared for the fact that my posting would be derided as are those of most people who have posted less than 500 times
4. I would make a plea to all the headless chickens on this board to remember their behaviour on this occasion and adjust it next time we have a crisis

Has Coppell had this change of heart at the last minute?

I just want it sorted so I can get on and do some decent work. Can't concentrate while it is stillup in the air and have to keep coming back every couple of minutes to see whats happening.

It isn't now that there's a problem, it'll be when the next "big" club have a vacant managerial position. Each time we'd think he might be off, and the insecurity wouldn't be good.

Then again, a bad manager wouldn't get a chance anywhere else. And I'd rather have a good manager than a bad manager.

Sorry, for some bizarre reason I have been thinking its Wednesday and not Tuesday.

Blimey. If its doing that to me, what must it be doing to the players.

Ultimately, if SC turned Reading down I think everything would return back to normal fairly quickly.

There are parallels with the Ronnie Moore to Ipswich move that never happened a couple of seasons ago, and it didn't do any long-term harm to Rotherham.

However, it is disappointing that SC has a purely short-term outlook on the Albion job, seeing it as a stepping stone and no more.

I had hoped he would want to be part of the first game at Falmer in 2-3 years time, but obviously that isn't one of his targets like it is for Dick Knight, the fans and probably most of the players.

I actually would feel quite dissapointed. At the moment i am convinced he doesn't want to be here and therefore I would wonder what would happen when the next vacant managers spot comes available.

In other words...sod off Coppell

No mate, you're being too cynical.

It's clearly not that he doesn't want to be here otherwise it wouldn't be such a hard decision to make for him. He does want to be here, I'd say he loves it here, but he's had a better job offered to him - higher division, more money, fantastic ground. Simple as that. If you loved where you were working but got offered a bigger job on a bigger salary at a better location you'd feel the same.

So chill out and don't be so nasty to Coppell, he likes us.

xx

A week ago I'd have welcomed the news with unalloyed pleasure. Now I'm not so sure. Basically I agree with Wilts. The bottom line is he doesn't really want to manage us, so consequently I don't really want him to be our manager. If he turns down Reading its only a stay of execution, perhaps the next time a bigger club comes sniffing (Wolves perhaps?) he'll go.

Having said that I do agree with Pavilionaire, I think this will all blow over quickly and we'll have a month or so of peace and quiet until David Jones gets sacked.
