There appears to have been, from a long way back, some considerable degree of understanding and indeed support, for supporters of clubs failing(possibly due to mismanagement) OR subject to the dealings of a board not necessarily totally inclined towards the footballing aspect of 'things'.

I find it hard to understand that anyone here could say anything contravening that viewpoint considering that our club was itself subject to that sort of ‘skulduggery’ , a situation to which supporters of many other clubs rallied to our cause.

I do seriously hope that we, as supporters of our club, will not ever fail to recognise that and will never ever cause us to end up as the reviled club, supporters with short memories thereby creating a stigma for our club.

Perhaps we should be a tad more humble.

Without wishing to sound like an old codger, I sense that a lot of the stuff coming out is from the young and impetuous amongst our fan base.

I grew up with the Albion during the Mullery years so was used to success culminating in top flight football and a cup final appearance. At that time I'm sure I was full of 'how good are we?' comments when talking to fans of loew league clubs (bottom division Wolves for example). Of course, since then it's been one heck of a rollercoaster and I've experienced the fear of having no club, going out of the league, and the support that all these 'little clubs' have given us. Even fans of our biggest rivals helped in our time of need and I hope that nobody on this board is not aware of how fans of our biggest rivals from up the road in Croydon (and no, Orient are not our rivals young 'uns) have supported REMF over the last 10 years.

We are currently riding a wave that we all hope carries on for some time. Many of our younger fans have had an exciting last 10 years or so with the promotions, the visits to the championship and now the new stadium. However, for most clubs in the country, that wave eventually runs out and humility will be required. All those singing "we'll never play you again" to Orient a few years ago found out that things very quickly change in football.

If we ride this current wave with dignity and humility then we will retain the good will many have towards us. If we don't, when that ride comes to an end, people will take great pleasure in our fall as they have with Leeds.

Think at the last count at least 9 former league clubs that i have seen us play currently reside in the BSP

Absolutely this and that!

Football is at best unpredictable, fortunes can change in an instant and reputations fade just as fast. There are clubs in the lower divisions, and non-league, who have achieved in their history far more than we have, who in their time were feared across the land. Enjoy the time when your team is successful, it is the time when they aren't that will test you. Don't forget that our short time in the top division ended almost 30 years ago, we have barely looked like scaling those heights during the intervening years...that for me is a reality break!

I think there is a distinction to be made.

What happened with us was asset stripping. What happens at other clubs, such as pompy, leeds, palace, is that the board owners spend money they don't have to sustain success they don't deserve, and the fans enjoy it, ride the wave of success that the club could never sustain, and when it all goes bell up they go into administration, wipe their debts and start the cycle again.

We never did that. I don't believe we are doing that now.

Criticising clubs for doing that and their fans for allowing and/or justifying it is not the same thing that others in this thread seem to have taken the discussion in that singing songs like "we'll never play you again".

So, Ferring Seagull, which did you mean? The banter/disrespectful teasing of teams we leave behind as we move up, or the criticising clubs who cheat the system/mismanaged clubs?

There had to be a first one so let it be me. I couldn`t give a shit what other clubs think of us.I do appreciate all help other fans may have given us but I think we have more than made up for it with our support of other clubs in jeopardy and many learned vital lessons by our example. If we can`t be full of ourselves now without being ashamed of it what was the bloody point!! Do we have to be humble and roll over to have our tummies tickled every time we meet or talk to opposing fans? We fought the fight so Brighton fans could once again stand proud.Football always was about giving and receiving banter between fans, it`s half the fun and if anybody takes it too seriously then more fool them.

I suppose in regards to what I was saying dosn't matter that much !

The important fact is that supporters of BHAFC are no different from the supporters of ***FC. They are all supporters of their particular FC and, irrespective of how their club got into difficulties, we should sympathise with them as indeed many supporters of other clubs did with us. I believe that we should not therefore take the piss and call them rubbish as they could easily have done to us. They supported us in our time of need and therefore I don't think it right that we should rubbish them, especially clubs who supported us. To take the piss at the expense of other clubs who may be enduring similar if not identical circumstances to those which we have endured seems wrong to me - sorry if no-one agrees with that. It's why I suggested that, on 6 August, we should be going round with a banner which states 'Thanks Donny for your support'

I've felt uncomfortable about some over-ebullient boasting seen in the past from some quarters, regarding dodgy clubs. It's not normally what the supporters of the clubs would choose anyway.
Naturally where they have either been barefaced about taking advantage unapologetically (Cheats!) or lorded it over us during our troubles (some orient fans/players/owner) then it's been good to put them behind us and remind them about it.

With palace though, not all have laughed at our troubles and wanted us out of the picture - in fact most of them probably didn't.
But it doesn't mean making nice - in fact letting them know we are back in their face, loud and proud, is a celebration of our survival.
They're the scum, and they know they are - and they expect to be reminded of that fact.

The worst cockyness is to be saying "we are so gonna piss this league", when in actual fact we may still struggle - and become a laughing stock if our manager moved upwards or we simply struggle to 'so piss this league'.

A little belated perhaps but a nice gesture all the same
