Atmos is brilliant at US Soccer games. Let's all speak with American accents to see if that makes a difference.
Here are a few popular ideas that could improve the atmosphere at the Amex, which of these are worth trialling?
Pre Match/Half Time DJ - DJ on the pitch to generate some tub thumping tunes to get supporters psyched for the big game.
Theme Days - It worked before but not something we do anymore but bring back theme days, we could have things like 1920's circus, P party, american idols, super hero day etc
Singing Section - A dedicated singing section in the North Stand, or one close to the away supporters.
A band/orchestra in the stadium - Generates a wonderful atmosphere at England games, could be trialled at the Amex to whip the crowd into a frenzy and provide a backing track to sing along to.
Club to provide new chants/song sheets - Employees within the club to come up with some new and unique to us songs for us to sing and handout songsheets so everyone knows the words.
Involve the audience in P.A announcements
Unreserved seating in certain areas - Allows groups of friends to sing together who may be more likely to sing as a group.
BHAFC Choir
Squad players to mingle with and encourage fans to get behind the boys pre match
Any other suggestions?
BHAFC kids vs <away team>'s kids football mini game at halftime.
Not exactly atmosphere heightener but it would make half time sitting in your seat more enjoyable!
I've got to say that, like most people, I was completely against any manufactured ideas of "improving the atmosphere" until very recently.
I've just got back from almost a year abroad and personally didn't think the atmosphere was that terrible yesterday. I did however think that the three different songs being sung at the same time at Arsenal was rubbish.
Whilst abroad, I was able to see a J-League game in Tokyo and the atmosphere there is just incredible. The crowd numbered at just over 40,000 and the passion on display around the whole ground completely blew me away.
I thought the following few things really worked:
- Having a stand behind the goal with unreserved seating. (this isn't used as an excuse to pack all 20 of your mates into a row of 10 seats mind)
- Having a part of this stand (front and centre) with a dedicated singing section led by a club run supporters group.
- Having a leader as part of the supporters group that leads not only the singing section, but the whole crowd in chants.
I also saw a game in Seoul and the atmosphere was also great despite a lower attendance. Whilst, generally, I'm pretty against a drum, the singing section had three professional level drummers (marching band style) and it was pretty fantastic to experience in person, kept everyone in time, and allowed chants to really build into something special.
