[Football] How to fix VAR ?

Here's my idea...

Do away with Stockley Park. If the onfield ref wants to look at something a bit closer he can get it cued up and go and have a look. Not perfect but seems less complicated - and keeps one man in charge.
What about the penalties for Mitoma and Dunk in last season's Spurs match? The ref wasn't interested in either of those.

Binning var is basically saying that our refs are too incompetent to use technology that the rest of Europe seem to use without too much issue,
The problem isn’t VAR in terms of well a concept and technology. It’s the f***ing idiots using it. My view is that if they can t use VAR then they should be allowed to referee a game. Using var should be easier but no, let’s f*** it up.
This. If you can’t pass your theory driving test then you can’t do your practical one.

Let's consider last season's Tottenham v Brighton match
1. Was disallowing Mitoma's goal for handball a clear and obvious error?
2. Was allowing the other goal that VAR subsequently disallowed for Mac Ali handball a clear and obvious error?
3. Was not giving a penalty to Mitoma a clear and obvious error?
4. Was not giving a penalty to Dunk a clear and obvious error?

IMO, the answers are yes, no, yes, yes.
so I would expect VAR to highlight 1, 3 and 4 to the referee and recommend changing those three decisions.
Personally I’d like it to be far less interventionist. The Mitoma handball for example required multiple viewings.

For me a decision either way on that one isn’t a clear and obvious error.

We should have got them. They were errors and we even got an apology for one of them.
We didn't though so VAR made no difference

This just isn't the case - loads of issues with VAR across Europe. Was listening to the radio this morning and they listed countless var farcical decisions across leagues around Europe just in the last little while!

I think the main thing that needs fixing is the attitude of the officials. The idea that they want to protect each other is beyond a joke. It's as if it's them against the world, and they just look out for each other. That should not be the objective.

I also think there should be a good complaints procedure that all clubs use, rather than the current trial by media that we have, where the narrative is influenced by ex-pros who are biased.

I don't like the idea of a 30 second rule because although we would like it to be quick, an arbitrary time limit just means that more poor decisions will be made/stand.

Refs should officiate as if there's no VAR, and VAR should only correct clear errors. It ain't rocket science.

I’m only going on what I’ve been told and general consensus was better with, than without.

It doesn't work.
It's a flawed idea because it ultimately relies on fallible humans to make unbiased subjective decisions in line with a set of laws.
We've seen they can't.

So..

Bin it.

Nope not needed ever the game is played by humans not f***ing computers.

Just like these idiots that play football manager they know duck all about football.

Leave technology out of the game apert from goal line.
I agree . . . Although . . . At the referees discretion . . . A video playback should be available . . . . Or it goes rugby ( my choice) respect and professionalism.

Technology generally does not make things better.

The fundamental aim of football is to score a goal. Before VAR you could generally tell if a goal has been scored. Post VAR you can't. VAR has removed the point of football for the live spectator. No benefits of VAR outweigh the massive negative.

If it was up to me the VAR team would be in Europe no connection to the PGMOL. All the while you have work mates on the pitch you are going to back each other up.

I always thought that the idea of the offside law was to stop players seeking an advantage. It has morphed into checking if someone’s boots are a size bigger than someone else’s. Once they started frigging around with offside rules and then reinforced them with slide rules the whole thing has become a shambles. It’s irrecoverable.

I deal with colleges from spain Germany and Italy. All are football mad and none of them have issues with VAR on the levels that we do in the uk. So as far as the leagues in those countries go it’s working well.
I was once asked if the idiot who worked Brexit is the same idiot running VAR in the England.
The company that runs VAR disagrees

Even have a Liverpool style call for a replay

Is your German friend a Munich fan by chance?

Another abysmal call in the Newcastle game tonight, not an English official in sight.
