El Presidente can probably give more details on this, but I don't think that any Premier League clubs are cash cows, other than maybe Man Utd, which is why the Glazers took out huge loans to buy it.

As for an ST being the equivalent of £42 a game, I don't think many would pay for 23 games in one go at that price. That's the idea of a season ticket though: you get a large loyalty discount.

There's only 19 home games in the Premier League. If you do get promoted then, even if the club freezes the price of season tickets, the cost per match has actually gone up significantly.

Sorry M Le P, I wasn't aiming to ruin anyone's day.

Those figures should make you excited (possibly in a non-sexual way)... as long as we are able to secure promotion this season. The gulf between Prem and Championship will increase even further with every season from now on, and at some point it may become uncrossable for most teams.

It is crossable due to three up three down.

What will be interesting is if those PL numbers increase the number of clubs relegated to the Championship to bounce back ((c) Alan Partridge) to the Prem as a result of having such an advantageous cash position, although it's not been the case to date.

Yes. I wonder if the increased Parachute payments will ever be enough to counteract the massive wage bills these teams bring down with them. Do clubs realistcally have relegation clauses in contracts?

Some clubs do have them, but agents might reject them or take their clients to other clubs without such clauses.

And I bet the clubs which add them are less attractive to the prospective player than the others, unless these clauses work both ways, and a player is automatically available for transfer (hopefully back to the Prem) if they get relegated.

The clubs that made operating profits (prior to player trading) in the PL in the most recent set of accounts were:

Manchester United £117 million
Arsenal £50 million
Villa £8 million
Cardiff £13 million
Chelsea £41 million
Palace £29 million
Everton £24 million
Hull £24 million
Liverpool £51 million
Man City £59 million
Newcastle £24 million
Norwich £26 million
Southampton £26 million
Stoke £23 million
Sunderland £11 million
Swansea £22 million
Spurs £26 million
West Brom £10 million
West Ham £32 million

The only club that lost money was Fulham, at £1 million.

The clubs had significant outflows in relation to transfer fees, but did have the resources to pay for this.
That's a genuine surprise to me. I thought that the profits of those outside the champions league was in the 1-5m range. You can see why some chairman go all out to get promoted - it could be nasty if it goes wrong though.

Yup.

It can go spectacularly tits up though if they're not applied.

Birmingham City were paying Zigig £52k a week so I'm told, and were subsequently relegated. No one else wanted him so he pocketed the remainder of his contract, mostly from the bench, over the next few seasons.

This really pisses me off. Each time we get a top premiership team at the Amex people who don't normally attend the games complain about those with loyalty points getting first option on tickets once the season ticket holders have been given their chance to claim their seats. We should be selling virtually all those tickets available to the home supporters. I fully understand that tickets are expensive and people can't afford to attend every game. Hopefully we will be seeing the Sold out signs up outside the stadium before too long. Please, no more whinging and wining callers to the Neil Pringle breakfast show when they can't get tickets for the glamour games because they don't attend enough league games.

Bizarre.

I just opened NSC, having watched Bobby's goal from last night for about the 764th time, to post: if you are an Albion fan why would you NOT come on Saturday?

There is economics at play for some folk, I appreciate, but:

- 12 games unbeaten
- top of the league
- playing an 'unfancied' side
- Zamora lighting up Sussex

Come. Just come. Please come.

Thats what she said last night, followed by 'already!' :tantrum:

How many clubs in the country would fill the Amex against normal opposition in this country in the championship ?
Not as many as you'd think I can assure you...crowds are top banana still :)
