How seriously are you taking social distancing?

One or two snide and judgemental comments starting to appear about people who have been furloughed. It says more about you than it does them. Petty, judgemental generalisations as if anyone asked to be put in this position or put in a special bid for an uncertain future.

My guess is that most of those sinking pints on Brighton Beach are spending refunded holiday money, but it is easier to stigmatise them as free loaders.

Thankfully this weather is ending from Wednesday, time "hopefully" for government to get their act together and limit numbers at these places or better off close them off until we have things properly under control.

i reckon people are going to these places (which are permitted) because they are desperate to get some normality and because its hot.
I reckon some are not social distancing because they are simply not being attentive and its a sort of accidental occurrence and some its deliberate because they are selfish types who only think of me me me
Bit unfair on the majority that seem to be distancing within the guidelines.

I don't think it's unreasonable to see others, if they are local to you, subject to the guidelines, ie...

- Outdoors
- Stay 2m away

All evidence to date suggests the risk of passing on the virus if you follow those two guidelines, is incredibly small.

I met my Mum for the first time last week and we took the dog for a socially-distanced walk. With the change in guidelines this week, we may well visit her for a back garden catch-up, but remain outdoors and 2m+ away at all times. I'll make sure the kids go to the loo before we go and we'll leave well before they need to go again. We'll have no need to enter her house at any times.

Life is all about managing risk, we've done our bit and helped flatten the peak etc. But I made the choice a couple of weeks ago to socially distance see my parents - so opened the side gate, they could come in and sit in the garden. I know we'd all been careful leading up to that - barely going out apart from essential shop visits but at that point seemed sensible.

We'll continue to be sensible but it was good to have a friend round yesterday for a BBQ and catch up - she'd had a tough few months, again we all knew the risks and trusted we'd all been sensible so don't see any issue with that.

That said - I won't be rushing for any big garden parties or big meet ups down the beach straight away

I didn't mean to come across as though I'm having a go at anyone though re-reading it I can see that I probably have. Sorry, wasn't my intention to shame or belittle anyone or be all holier than thou.

Honestly I'm just still scared. My other half would say I'm projecting. It's annoying living with a psychologist sometimes.

Erm, I think if you read the article properly that is exactly what they are saying, law abiding local tax payers should be able to enjoy what Brighton has to offer, without the visitors spoiling it for them...!

As for the picture, who even knows what day it was taken, as stock photos have been used before to cover these sort of stories.

Simple things like direction signage to spread out where people hit the beach instead of just piling down West St. More info. for getting off at Hove and Aldrington then heading to the beach. Run a seafront land train up and down the sea front to distribute people. Plenty could be done other than just allowing train loads of people to walk down from the station and pack out the same stretch of beach.

I don't know why you are laughing, its Cummings that is laughing, we all been treated as mugs

Social distancing, size of groups...people are less likely to obey the rules now. Cummins actions, his failure to admit any wrong and blatant lying has eroded public trust.

That said, the buck ultimately stops with Johnson, he has failed to act. He will have even more blood on his hands, but when tens of thousands have needlessly passed away due to his arrogance and incompetence, what's a few more...

More crowding/people paying no attention to arrows/I thought less masks as well

I get your point, I can see that, but I think of it in reverse that our soft touch lockdown was the most that the government and public health scientists thought we’d stomach.

The heavy Spanish and Italian strategy was enforced by a huge presence of (armed) police, with Spanish augmenting that with 131,000 military personnel, Italy also used their army on the streets including for road checkpoints. That’d be an anathema in Britain.
