Just spoke to my Dad to say we wouldn't be up for mother's day now due to social isolation; they're 66 and 62.

He didn't really get it saying they are well and so are we, so no problem. He even said his group of mates are coming around tomorrow evening for their regular poker night

It's not just the elders.

Kids have presumed that no school means non stop holidays, trips out and play dates. Trying to find the right words to say "no" without scaring them is, well, effing impossible. I've resorted to "we'll see". "Just because" and "because I say so" are next out.

Most (85%) of people are very considerate to others. I do worry with the situation I'm in and try to avoid busy food aisles in supermarkets. Having a very healthy diet helps but it's certainly not a cure.

My office is above a Tesco Store.

I am not in the office but my secretary was telling me that the amount of people in store at any time is to be limited and from tomorrow the Army are being brought into the store to enforce this.

FFS. We've cancelled our regular monthly cards & curry night tomorrow - we've been going for over 35 years. One of the group is over 70 now so we told him to **** off the supermarket/Costa/Nero/Spoons with all the other wrinklies.

Totally flabbergasted by the response in Sweden and the complete lack of understanding about the severity of the situation and what social isolation means... as said before, 200 years of peace make a population really, really stupid especially when it comes to detecting dangers.

Second biggest city (Gothenburg) have decided to allow bars & restaurants to open their outdoor teraces already next week in order to "support business". Its so ****ing stupid its just impossible to grasp. And when I discussed it in some Gothenburg Facebook group, almost everyone including 60yo+ people said "but the social isolation is only for people over 70". Really... intense levels of stupidity. Gaaaahhh the frustration I feel...

It's clear that far to many out there are just not interested in social distancing. The old and the young adults especially.

It feels like we are sat on a plane slowly approaching the runway. Very soon the engines will roar and the case and death figures will go through the roof.

It'll happen soon, very soon now.

It's the same here, and seemingly has been the case everywhere until governments have been forced to step in and enforce lock down, which shows that perhaps a certain % of the human race is fvcking stupid, and that its not linked to how peaceful a country is historically!

Maybe... I still refuse to believe that the local authorities in the second biggest city in any corona infected country would try their darndest to make people go to restaurants and bars.

But yes, the human race indeed got some flaws wherever you go.

14 days behind Italy to an absolute tee and nothing has changed. My spoons was busy as usual (stuck my head in and out) all cafes open but Costa had shut. Tesco Express and M&S foodhall next door busy, barbers all open, most businesses open. Gym open etc

Just like a normal day in the shires.

Its coming isnt it, I mean we haven't varied from Italy's route to hell by one iota.

Many large chain and independent restaurants and shops closing from today / tomorrow. It's happening in a calm manner. So far no need for troops or banning orders. A much more British way. Sure a few have been out for a last drink or meal before the shutdown but suspect this was the plan to save a mass ban and the indignation it would bring.

Had a ton of emails from various places today (obviously signed up for goodness knows what newsletters, loyalty programs etc) saying that they’re shutting down from tonight/tomorrow. I think you’re right.......it’s more of an orderly and panic-free withdrawal rather than a draconian instant shutdown, but essentially results in the same thing. All seems calm, sensible and rational and no surprise as a result. We’ve all seen it coming.

I’ve spent this week working from home, going for a run most days (alone) and a couple of trips to local shops to pick up odds and ends. Expecting this to be the way of things for the foreseeable future.

As it should be. The sooner everyone comes to terms with what’s going on and gets on with it, the sooner it’s over.

Pretty much done the same this week. The gradual shutdown has probably kept thousands more from rampaging through supermarkets.

One benefit to those that can’t work from home is that it’s a lot easier to get from job to job...the coast road from Shoreham to the Marina was ghostly quiet.....a lot of shops along Brighton seafront locked up

Seriously, is this the army from Waterhall - FFS

No it's definitely true. It was the Manager of the store which told her that the Army were going to be supporting their own Security Staff. Don't know if that means just a couple of soldiers at each store to show some sort of deterrent presence in case looting begins.

This is a store in North London

My thoughts entirely

You actually think NooBHA would just pull something out of his ass to scare people or be sensationalist in some way? Its one of the most sensible and collected people in here, I see absolutely no reason not to trust him.

Its not really the same thing either, the military in multiple if not all countries are going to help out in different ways in this crisis. It isnt the same thing as the other fella who was indicating there would a massive, military supported lockdown (not that I believe that is completely out of the question at some point). Sounds like they will just make sure the food/necessaries supply is working out reasonably well since its apparently been an issue.

On that, copied from facebook (from an Army Staff Sargeant) :

In case anyone is panicking...

To all my civvie mates who are panicking over the military "going on the streets".

This is normal during any emergency where the civil authorities require extra manpower to operate. It’s called MACA, Military Assistance to Civil Authorities.

Basically military personnel from all 3 services are utilised to assist the likes of the police(static duties/non enforcement) hospitals(medics/doctors/paramedics) Fire brigade, even down to drivers of vital supplies(oxygen/oil).

We are not there to put the country under martial law.

We are not there to shoot people with 6 bog rolls and 12 loafs of bread.

We are there to assist/help. Same as what we did during the floods, the fireman strike and the foot and mouth outbreak.

Please stop posting "troops on the streets" panic inducing bollocks.

We are here to help stop this virus.[emoji1896][emoji1902][emoji1974][emoji1968][emoji1986][emoji1980][emoji2010][emoji2004][emoji3133][emoji3161]

You can of course make judgements ..that is yours ..and perhaps you’ve missed last nights thread re Waterhall...so no lectures please ..now he has provided further clarification it makes more sense...and I have nothing against the poster..

Unfortunately rumours can sometimes be presented as facts ..take this for example

https://fullfact.org/online/troops-clapham-coronavirus/

An army is already being drafted in :)

https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...d-the-nation&usg=AOvVaw1FnXT8xItOQzPzenVyEUdz

On a more serious note I had already seen this headline in the sun

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11175682/army-brought-into-guard-hospitals-supermarkets-coronavirus/

With all due respect whilst we all fight a common goal we are in two different countries
