MOT due next week and I think this could be the end. Happy with that though, only paid £400 for it 2 years ago.

09 plate Fiesta. Had it for 6 months- had 28000 miles on the clock when I got it and it seems like the gearbox is on the way out now. Thankfully I signed up to a used car warranty when i bought it!

Got a 99 Ford Focus 1.6 LX which I've had since 2006. Good to drive and been very reliable.

Been on a 90 mile a day commute to work ,and its been fine.

Do fancy something else now though , its just deciding what. Heart v Head time.

2010 BMW X6 XDrive 40d - had it from new, now just over 90k miles. The first 4 years were incident free, BUT this year so, far;

Cold start problem - BMW solution - decoke and some replacement computer thingy - £980.00 :nono:

4 new tyres - Got them at CostCo - £1,100.00 ???

Aircon stopped working - BMW solution - new aircon compressor - £1,400.00 :cry: The part alone cost £1,200.00 :rant:

Also got a 2009 Mini Cooper Convertible 30k miles - no problems to date

PLUS a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara soft top GV1600, in near new condition 80k miles

Bangernomics for me. I look for unfashionable grandad cars with a full service history for under a grand. I run them until they die, then buy another one. Its the cheapest form of motoring by far - but no good if you think its important to be seen in a new/expensive car.
Current car: 2002 Citroen C5 auto exclusive, full leather interior, every bell and whistle imaginable (some of which even work), cost £500 two and a half years ago. Only tyres, light bulbs and a battery bought for it. Hasn't yet failed an mot.

Edit: And when you throw them away - you get £150 back in scrap.

Thats interested AT, do you buy private or trade?

I've held on to my Focus for ages, as there's nothing wrong with it. Didn't want to have anything too new for driving on the M25 in the winter months, once all the grit gets chucked on it.

Either really - in that price bracket it doesn't really matter. If its at a dealer they are generally just trying to shift something they have taken as a px. I've bought at auctions before, but given up on them as they charge pretty high fees both to buyer and seller. It really helps if its got a full service history - these unfashionable old crocks often have, often having been owned from new by someone of advancing years who's dilligently paid for its annual servicing. There is always a small risk of an undiscovered major fault, but thats the gamble.

Just roughly calculated that I've had (together with the wife) 25+ cars and done about 1,000,000 miles over the last 35 years. Never had anything more than a few years old, but looking at buying a 15 year old car sometime over the next year when I find the right one. I've decided an e-type is really impractical so am going for something a bit newer :wink:

That would take two years at a constant 60mph.

£1200 but the trader has sorted the problem of the passenger electric window(qouted £450 from Haywards Heath Ford:eek:)
Now got to get rid of Previa :cry:

That is £83 they are giving you - right? You don't pay money to have half a ton of scrap metal taken away.

Not any more, scrap values have halved since the start of the year.
In January if you drove it in and removed the battery & wheels they would give you £50-60 now they will take it off you for **** all. if you wanted it collected it will cost you.
Were find getting rid of metal garage doors a problem, metal collectors would happily take them a few months ago, now with scrap metal down to just £35 a ton we are having to pay to get them taken away.

2008, bought new then. No major desires to replace it though I could do with a larger car - may give it to my partner and get something bigger soon.

Me too. I drive a T reg Jaguar XJ8 automatic knowing that the Germans won't have fiddled its emissions. Great ride, unbelievable acceleration if required and horrendously expensive to repair. MPG hopeless in urban areas but 35 mpg on motorways. Cost me £1,200 four years ago so if anything big goes wrong simply scrap it and get another. This is the third one! Looks great (last car designed by Sir William Lyons) and when you drive one of these everyone calls you 'sir'....

I know the problem. I have a BMW 125 MI automatic which requires a gentle touch on the accelerator to start eating the road as the burners kick in. Would get to the moon on a full tank on the motorway, but stick it in a town and it guzzles petrol like it wants to bankrupt me :cry:

56 Plate BMW 118d M Sport. I always said I'd never buy a diesel but it's by far the best car I've ever owned. It costs £45 a week to get to work in diesel, rather than over £100 by train and tube.
