Charity event I went to last Friday night.....

Lot 12 Current Chelsea shirt goes for £500.
Lot 13 Man Utd shirt goes for £500 too.
Last lot of the night was a signed current Albion shirt. 'I'll do my bit and get this one cheap for a nifty' methinks. A minute or so later and the gavel goes down at

£1200

Signed shirts always amaze me, when I was at Hastings Utd we had a signed Chelsea shirt and it went for over £500 if i remember rightly. What exactly are you meant to do with it??!!

Someone could have bought the Peter Ward shirt at that price!

On Sunday, didn't a signed shirt from last season go less than what the unsigned shirt would have cost in the shops? :lolol:

I've always fancied a signed, framed shirt somewhere around the house. The only problem, I guess, is that they become dated very quickly. It is sort of a grown-up version of a poster I guess.

I guess but the prices are ridiculous. I suppose the only way round your problem is to get something that wont get dated, like a real legends signed shirt with one fairly neatly written signature. Not something the whole team has scribbled on as they walked of the training ground!

I think you're right. When I went to Twickenham the other day they had the new England shirt signed by the entire autumn international squad (unframed) for £300. In comparison, they had a replica world cup final 2003 shirt, framed, numbered (it was a 'limited edition' of something like 1000 shirts) and signed by the entire 2003 world cup squad for £3000.

I guess that if you want something that is signed and actually represents an important occasion, you are going to have to pay for it!

I have a signed framed shirt in my hallway...its Adam El Abd's, one he ACTUALLY wore in a game last season, but he can't remember which one (its a blue and yellow away jobbie). He's signed the number 6 on the back (best wishes and all that). Got it framed with a postcard pic of him in it.

Must be worth at LEAST £7.99. Well, the frame perhaps.

I've got a few signed shirts on my walls:

- Kerry Mayo's match-worn one from when we played Reading live on Sky on March 21st 2005 (the 'Alive & Kicking' appeal).

- Alexandre Frutos' shirt from the game where all the players had a Red Nose embroidered on their shirts for Comic Relief (signed by M. Frutos himself, as well as Alexis Bertin and Michel Kuipers).

- Kim Eaton's top signed by all the squad at the time from when I went to the Sponsor's Dinner as one of the NSC 'winners' in 2007 (I think).

- Barcelona home shirt signed by Ronaldinho.

Remember also, that what somebody pays for something at a CHARITY auction, isn't necessarily a reflection of its worth.

The buyer might have just fancied chucking a grand in the charity pot, and didn't really care which lot he bid on. Sometimes its just to impress people at his table. A lady, perhaps.

Seen it done, plenty of times.

I have got all my shirts from 2000-2008 seasons signed by the players at the time.
The shirts from the back to back Championship winning seasons are my favorites, with the likes of Zamora, Watson, Kupiers etc....

Guess on Prices? (not that i am planning on seeling them) ?

I agree that you can often get the flash gits showing off but I think that this was just two very passionate, and quite well off, Brighton fans going head to head.
As soon as the lot was announced I could see a couple of guys whispering excitedly to those that they were with. Maybe the price was determined, in part, in that it was the last lot of the night and the grog was kicking in.

:lolol: Can't read that line without hearing it in Mr Cholmondley-Warner's voice.
