I had my first pint in the CLIFTONVILLE as it happens. There was a lower bar with a snooker table as far as I can remember - and I believe it was 17p.

Used to enjoy the 'entertainment' in there on Saturday afternoons on a match day many moons ago.

As an underage drinker, the only time we could get on the pool tables was when everyone disappeared to the saloon bar to watch the strippers.

Mild was a penny or so cheaper.

Linking to the 1984 thread....In 1984 I was in the Sixth Form and we used to drink in the Sussex on Hove seafront - Fosters was 96p a pint and I used to earn £1.19 an hour from Tescos in Boundary Road working 17 hours for 20 quid. Never ran out of cash and thought I was rich, particularly having stepped up from the exploitation wages of the newsagents as a paperboy - Yes I mean you, Forbouys of Portland Road.

After eventually finding an exchange rate calculator for years ago, £2.45. Seem to remember it was either at or under £2.00 a pint in Wales at the time.

M grandad's local back where I'm originally from charges less in euro now (although what they charge now would be £2.49 due to the rates changing) for a pint of lager than my local did a decade ago which shows what the markup available to publicans if they want to abuse it is.
