Honestly an incredible performance from him tonight. Absolutely bullied Lukaku tonight. Outstanding along with the rest of the back line.

The titles a bit tongue in cheek but that was some performance again from him tonight.

If he joined Newcastle for, say, £15 mill I'd be disappointed, and that is testament to how far he has come. He was superb tonight.

That may not be far from the truth. I wouldn't mind betting that they're looking at him: local lad. won't be too expensive and a quality CB. He'd be in line with the Trippier and Wood deals - an experienced PL player who won't let the side down.

Tony wouldn't let him go cheaply though.

I think someone made a similar point on another thread but I’d be very surprised if any of our players (Bissouma aside) walked into another Prem team and played at the level they do for us.

The system(s) Potter has them comfortable playing and the relationships they have with each other has a huge impact on their playing level. I would say that Burn is probably the best example of this. If he was thrown into that Newcastle team, you’d see a very different player to the one we’ve seen recently.

It would be the price for Burn plus the price for Lukaku who would still be in his pocket.

Turns out it was £13 Million.

Maybe even £12.5.

Well and truly stung.

Yes, Newcastle have been.

Our third choice left wingback or fifth choice centre back for much of his tenure, he always gives 100% and has the odd really good game (City in the 3-2, the Chelsea game that spawned this thread).

But Potter has used him very specifically and if he were not left-footed he might have been shipped out a lot earlier than he was. He'll be exposed time and again by a poor Newcastle midfield and Smeddie will play him in a rigid formation that will get the worst out of him. As soon as he's outpaced a couple of times their crowd will get on his back.

Brilliant against a (pissed off and out of form) Lukaku? Yup. But remember what Adama did against him for Wolves?

I never want to see Traore against an Albion side again

It’s bizarre that nightmare first half turned into the second half that effectively was the catalyst for where we are now imo. An absolutely massive turning point in Potter’s tenure.

I am damn sure he was worth more than £13 mill. (To us anyway) .. I know he is about 30 and 1 don’t know the remaining contract he had , but his displays at the heart of defence recently have been excellent. I feel we are weaker this morning

Given that Traore has just gone to Barcelona, I for one would be overjoyed if he played against us!

There was also a game where in three separate incidents he trod on the ball, lost sight of the ball behind him and almost kneed in an own goal. That said I like Dan Burn, he is an utter professional, but 13m is an excellent piece of business for a 3rd/4th/5th choice player.
