I looked into it about 8/9 months ago and was quoted for a new 35kw combi, £1100/£1200, + £500 to fit

I had a decent gas combi boiler fitted about a year ago for about £1200 all in (corgi registered local plumber called Mik on a recommendation). We chose one from a shortlist of Glow Worm, Worcester Bosch & Potterton if I recall correctly - I'll have a look when I'm home

I've just checked & it's a Glow Worm combi boiler. The missus has reminded me that she chipped in £500, so the total cost was actually £1700

We are accredited installers of a few boiler brands including Worcester Bosch - my tip is to look for a local accredited installer and get a few quotes from them - if you have a boiler installed by these firms/companies you will get 5/7 year warranty before 31/12/12. Also a 10 yr warranty on the heat exchanger. 5/7 year warranty option depends on the make/model of boiler. With Worcester's service back up - this can't be matched IMO. Hope this helps.

We had a new Worcester floor standing boiler fitted last year. Not cheap but excellent quality. There is an article in the current Which magazine about boilers, well worth a read, with Worcester coming out as best buy. For a fitter, look at check-a-trade, as all tradesmen have online references, so you're unlikely to get a cowboy.

Do not trust all you see on Check-a-trade. The worst boiler installation I have come across was installed by a so called gas safe engineer/check a trade twat. After informing the various authorities it was deemed to be completely unsafe and went to court. I think his mother used to give him 10/10 for his work. Be fecking wary about firms that say they have fabulous ratings. Its a bit like Trip Advisor. Always go by word of mouth.

We fit worcesters for around the £1800.00 mark, sometimes depends on different factors as to whether the price goes up or down, generally speaking this is a good ball park figure, good luck.By the way stay well away from british gas unless you want to pay double or treble the going rate.

I am having a Potterton combi boiler fitted next week by British Gas
I have gone for this one because it is stainless steel and I live in a hard water area, this should be taken into consideration due to limescale etc.
They are supply fit the boiler, fitting the electrics, changing the outlet etc as my current one was fitted to high making it illegal, making good all work, taking away ALL the rubbish, giving a 10 year warranty, plus full service back up, it includes the new smart wireless thermostat that can be set by iphone, full loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Cost is a total £2954 with no hidden extras, that is the final cost irrespective of if they find anything else needs doing during installation.
Now I actually think that is a good price as you can get a plumber to fit a boiler but not all plumbers are heating engineers. Although there is some very good companies it is purely a matter of choice.
