Dont use British Gas , they only subcontract off and charge you more .
What I did was find out what the other properties the same as you have bought recently and then buy the boiler yourself(about £600 to £800 max) and get a local fitter to install it who has a good reputation.could save you £1500
British Gas will cost you treble the price

I had a decent gas combi boiler fitted about a year ago for about £1200 all in (corgi registered local plumber called Mik on a recommendation). We chose one from a shortlist of Glow Worm, Worcester Bosch & Potterton if I recall correctly - I'll have a look when I'm home

I just bought a De Diterich one here in Poland for £600, sealed combustion chamber too :)

Also, if you are thinking about locating the boiler in a cupboard or similar make sure you go for a boiler that has a sealed combustion chamber.

That sounds like a very good deal - ours cost double that

Worcester Bosch are a good make, but not cheap.

We had a new Worcester floor standing boiler fitted last year. Not cheap but excellent quality. There is an article in the current Which magazine about boilers, well worth a read, with Worcester coming out as best buy. For a fitter, look at check-a-trade, as all tradesmen have online references, so you're unlikely to get a cowboy.
