I am rubbish at looking after sunglasses. I have two pairs at the moment. Some Ray-Bans i bought in a sale about 5 years ago which I always leave the car because I can’t trust myself to look after them anywhere else and some cheap hawkers (£25 or so) which will likely get lost or broken next summer and will need replacing (if I can find them first).

I’ve got some of these from Screwfix that I use when working outside, probably perfect for riding home on a bike from the pub when drunk

I have had loads and always seem to lose them. Latest pair of Armani's (£105) I left in a hotel room. Contacted the hotel and they said they have them so went back a couple of weeks later to pick them up. Some dastardly bugger swapped them out for a £2 pair so I never got them back! Just bought near identical ones to replace them at the same price. I've decided to only take cheap ones when going on piss ups from now on!

I have some vintage RayBan's that I picked up in a carboot for £2 a few years ago - they are from when they were made by Bausch and Lomb and I like them a lot...everything about them just seems quality. I've also got some vintage Persol's I'm a big fan of - I got them for around £60 in a French market but they are worth a lot more than that. The most I've paid was probably around £120 for some Oliver Peoples that my daughter tells me don't suit my face. At the other end of the scale in Belfast for work last winter it was unbelievably and unexpectedly sunny and I got a pair of £1.50 sunglasses from Primark. Those stay in the car and as a result are probably the ones I end up wearing the most.

Good question. I have just over 20 pairs in total. The brands are Oakley, Prada, Rayban and D&G. Most was one of the D&Gs which was 400 something euros.
D&G ....2006 called and wants its brand back ;)

I like sunglasses, I try and buy when there's a good sale.

1 x Bruno Cucinelli
3 x Persol - the 'Steve McQueen's' are legendary
2 x Oliver Peoples
Some Tom Fords, some rayban aviators
Some throwaway stuff from asos

Most expensive is a pair of loro piana glasses which were gifted to me, possibly £450? Which is pretty obscene tbh but probably the cheapest item in the loro store !!

Rayban, Persol and Oliver Peoples the trifecta of sunglasses brand for the discerning gentleman.

I rather like my D&Gs thank you very much. I have two pairs, the last one I bought 3 years ago. They're big, their really dark, and scream 'leave me alone'.......please take note!

I quite like Oakley's, but they're nearly always that wrap-around mirror lense style. Makes me look like a rock-climber. Which I am not.
No idea what the Ferraris look like?. But the "ex" Wayfarers are cool, classic and classy.

I'll have you know, Albion legend Bobby Z is a felliow wayfarers man!

And how would I know that? Christmas eve flying back from long haul hols and who was standing right in front of me on bus from terminal to Heathrow bound BA aircraft (with his kids) rocking said Wayfarers!

When I was entering Villa Park many years ago, and my manbag was searched, I was asked why I was carrying 3 pairs of sunnies. He seemed to think I'd stolen them.

Problem here as well. Favourites are Ray Ban, and Persol’s, currently have a pair of Wayfarer change but got lens changed so they are polarised.
Most of my sunglasses are ‘borrowed’ by other members of my family which ‘forces’ me to buy others. It’s a disease. About £180 for latest pair.

I bought a lovely pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers from the duty-free in Gatwick on the way to Gran Canaria last year, which cost me £140 (apparently reduced from £180), and they were very much excellent. Sadly, on a drunken wobble home from the pub last autumn, I fell off my bike. Scuffed up my arms, my chin and my eye socket, and then amongst my trauma as I hobbled home, must have left my sunglasses in the gutter. No doubt dutifully scooped up by some deformed degenerate urban pustule who's gums I would not piss on if they were on fire.

Anyhoo. During the festive period, I've had a bit of LUCK on the old accas, creaming in around £268 from Ladbrokes. So I went into BOLLOCKS mode, went down to Sunglass Hut (despite knowing they the biggest rip-off merchants), to have a mince round and buy some new ones. The long and short of it - they had a 50% sale on many brands, so I've sloped off with a pair of Ray-Bans polaroid, priced at £215, but for £107.50. And visually, they really are the biz. Delighted. They're Ferrari (with the logo). And I drive a Honda. But they just "sat right" on my boat, so I went with it.

Being as I was only spending winnings (ie free money), I'd probably have gone up to about £180, but didn't need to due to the January sales.

So I put it to the class. What would, or have, YOU spend on sunglasses ?
I have two pairs of Ray Bans. The first pair I paid £60 for on a flight to the US in 1997. I use them for driving and got a second identical pair as a present about 2 years ago which think were about £120 ish. I’m banking on not needing to have to buy a third pair!

I lost one of my pair of Oakley’s when on a fishing trip a couple of months ago, so waited until I was in the States last week to get a replacement pair. Didn’t get any though because the prices were higher than in the UK, even at the outlet malls. They did have ‘buy one, get one half price’ offers in most places but base prices for a similar pair to those I lost were 260-280 bucks, I paid £140 in the UK.

I've a couple of really nice pairs that I pickup at auctions locally. Then I've got a draw full of snides from Thailand which are surprisingly good quality.

I usually have a "good" pair (I have a pair of Ray-Bans that I bought for about £100 ten years ago that are still going strong, plus a newer version for about the same price) and an "everyday" pair for things like gardening or swimming pool on holiday etc etc for about £30.

These are my latest ones (Oakley Frogskins). They were a gift, but the retail price is circa £90.00

I have never spent more than a fiver on a pair of sunglasses, and I’ve only done that twice in my life. I just don’t really wear them, I seem strangely able to see in bright sunlight without them.

To me sunglasses (especially designer sunglasses) scream “Barry Homeowner.” There’s something status symbol/theatrical prop about them, they just don’t seem necessary, regardless of where in the world I’ve been.

Having said that, the missus has a nice pair of Ferrari branded Ray-Bans that she looks good in, so there are sunglasses that are aesthetically pleasing. Each to their own.

The amount of money spent on sunglasses is directly and inversely proportional to the amount of time they will spend on your face before you sit on them, lose them, have them nicked, scratch them to buggery on a sandy beach, break them in a tumble, etc etc
