As for his footballing knowledge/punditry I don't find him a no more offensive than most of the pundits (with the exceptions of jamie redknapp and rob beasley).

One thing he does, which I do like, is make it more of a discussion. Perhaps from his experience as broadcast host, but I remember one time when the actual host of the show asked Andy a question, and instead of simply answering like he was being interviewed, gave his opinion developed the discussion, then threw it over to the other guest.

townsend is a cock comentator, similar to pleat in stupid observations that would only be true in his head. tonights best was that Rooney (why he was banging on about a player not on the pitch i dont know, but it was rather slow) is the God of all players and can play as a lone striker. all previous attempts have shown this to be manifestly untrue, one of the very reasons why Heskey plays is to support and give the space Rooney needs, which he doesnt get when having two centrebacks and the midfield closing him out.

I worry for Steve Ryder's health. His face lobster red and over-cooked, his hair being drained of colour and styled to pretend there is something to it, his bodily size seemingly shrunken since the death of his mentor David Vine, his mind wizened by the memory of losing the mantle of BBC2's low-grade sports coverage emcee to the squirrel-faced snooker-babe-for-the-elderly. ITV are struggling to put together a decent formula for any kind of matchday presentation, and i get the feeling they don't really care.
