I remember paying 1s 4d for a pint of cider at the Alliance in Edward Street. That was when a pint of Tamplins Sussex Bitter was 1s 10d.

Post decimalisation, the lowest price I remember is 13p a pint - in Barnsley.

Ed That's around the figure I remember when I first 'started', and BTW a gallon of petrol was around 4/10 (Lsd) which is in today's currency is 24p., a newspaper was 1.5p etc. - happy days !

The dull part of the south coast
Nothing!! My Dad was a pub landlord and as a reward for helping him with restocking the bottle beers he would give me a baby Guinness.

I was eight years old! Perfect education.

38p, pint of Bass Charrington IPA, circa 1977.

At Uni in Brum could go to the pub (Brew X1 50p, so a good few of those, then a club, then a (poor) curry, taxi home - all for around 15.00!!

My sence of balance!

12 p for a pint of Taunton Cloudy at the Full Moon in Boyces Street.

I had three and found it difficult enough to stand let alone walk.

58p Courage Mild, British Queen Willingdon 1984

funny the things you remember. A fair proportion of the following 20,000 (very low estimate) have been a bit of a blur

... which has set me thinking ...

What was the price of a packet of fags when you first started smoking? Two bob for twenty Number 6, if I remember rightly. Or was it four bob? I can't remember what I first paid for five Woodbines, though.

Around the mid seventies you could buy 10 No 6 from the fag vending machine outside Oakhill Stores in Horsham for two bob.
