TBH though, it is a ridiculous question being asked, and impossible to ever even get close to an accurate answer. I know 4 or 5 people in my road that would say thay are Brighton supporters, at a push, hell, even my folks would say the same, and they live 150 miles away, and have never lived in Sussex (signed all the Falmer letters though)

Impossible question to answer.

The only way of finding out would be to get the ticket office to release the numbers of people on thier ticketing database.

I make probably 10-12 games home and away a season. I have work commitments every saturday, so I am reliant on holiday and days off to pick games. Even still I class myself as a Brighton fan through and through, regardless of how many games I go to.
So on that basis, I would guess that there are 15k+ on the ticketing database (especially after the villa game)

Then add on 20k casual fans who go to games once in a blue moon. Then add another 20k who either live abroad, out of the county or go to the big games, or have disappeared of to watch local football etc etc.

Then of course you have the people who look out for the results, but dont go to games for whatever reason, but still class themselves as Brighton fans. 10k

I think in the region of 70-80k wouldnt be a bad guess to be fair.

But again impossible question to answer.

The population of Sussex is 2.5 million. You can't tell me that only 80,000 people look out for the result! I reckon those that have ever been to a game are only 1/10th of those that would say, if anything, Brighton are the team they relate to. I reckon more like 350,000. More If you include people who also "have" a premiership team.

they were reporting on South(ampton) Today this morning that Saints to 50,000+ to Wembley yesterday....if that is accurate that is a phenomenal amount of fans.

Really? That would've only left Carlisle an allocation of less than 20,000.
