How many of your Great Grandparents can you name?

Most of us have EIGHT great grandparents. Do you know who yours were? And where were they born?

My eight:-

Father's father's father:- born in Newcastle on Tyne
Father's father's mother:- Heiton, Roxburghshire

Father's mother's father:- Hexham, Northumberland
Father's mother's mother:- Hexham, Northumberland

Mother's father's father:- Witton Park, County Durham
Mother's father's mother:- Old Monkland, Lanarkshire (to Irish immigrants)

Mother's mother's father:- Esh, County Durham (to Irish immigrants)
Mother's mother's mother:- Durham City

If your family comes from East Anglia, the chances are that you can only name about three different individuals, obviously, but don't be shy about admitting this.

My Mum's side of things are pretty easy, Her mothers side of the family were from Lurgashall in Hampshire and the Fathers side are from the Borders in Wales. I have no idea about Dad's side of the family though, would be interesting to know.

My Father's father's mother lived on Denton Island in Newhaven and had a wooden leg. Fact! Her surname was Wheeler.

No close interbreeding but from our family tree it looks like two generations above were busy with their aunts, uncles, cousins. Eek.

All my father's family came from Ashurst, Partridge Green and Sayers Common but I don't know their names beyond my own grandparents (that I never knew as my father was an orphan by the time he was 15)

Your family sound like they were very late getting round to emigrating.

They all qualify to be what Brendan Behan found himself described as in New York - FBI.
