How many grounds that no longer exist

I've been looking up these old places i remember from my childhood (watching them on Telly mainly, not live) and then Googling their old location to see what's there now.

Anyone else done that, or is it just me and my sentimental ways?

Layer Road, Colchester was always an interesting away-day.

God yes wasn't it just?. Miles from the station and you had to change bus about three times just to get there, either that or a long long walk.

Funnily enough, i posted that then did a as i saw your post!

There's a few others i've looked at too, weird sense of nostalgia. I quite like how a few of them have been rebuilt keeping the 'stadium' shape - the Baseball ground and Highbury being good examples. Makes it feel like they're still there in spirit...

...unless it's Bootherry Park, in which it's just been left derelict.

I loved Gay Meadow, that place had a real sense of history about it. Shrewsbury is a nice town.

Some happy memories of some of those grounds - for example I can recall a very happy visit to Eastville circa 1977 on the 'Seagulls Special' train for a midweek game. Strange atmosphere at the ground which was like a cross between Withdean, Hove greyhound stadium and Arlington 'cos it had a dog track / speedway track around the pitch. It was a misty / drizzly night and the opposite end of the pitch was barely visible 'cos we were standing miles behind one of the goals. Through the mist was the smelly old gasworks which gave Rovers their nickname. I think we won 0-4 or 1-4 which made the return train trip (with the team and management on board) great fun.
