Not as well as I thought. Mind you, the sports cars would have been way off my radar back then, unless I'd won the pools (which I didn't) - and you didn't see many of them anyway, unless you lived in the posh parts of London and the home counties, I suppose.

On our council estate there were four cars on the whole road in the 70's - and it was about 180 houses long! (It was a very poor area)

My Dad had a Capri, resprayed in the JPS colours, Bert Doletski over the road had a cobalt blue Princess, a bloke further down the road had a Cortina as a company car, and Bert Summers (invalid) had what the whole road called his 'Batmobile' - and looked like this...



Not quite a 'sports car of the 70's' as we used to run beside it when he set off - and overtake him.

What i cant get over is how small and horrid looking even the more upmarket models are.. My parents had a honda civic at one point. I have no idea how they got two adults and two kids in it without the wheels collapsing. They look like they're made out of recycled tomato tins

My mate's brother had a colleague who had one of those; he'd had a few things done to it, mind, and it could top 70mph with ease!

Some of us are old enough to remember when you used to have a few of those parked up in the South West Corner of the Goldstone during matches.
