Jess Phillips doesn’t have a whataboutism take on this Labour disaster - Corbyn was a huge reason, as was anti-semitism and the denial of it, and the fairytale Manifesto shopping list that simply didn’t add up.

A great opportunity lost on every level, now not having any say on how this country is managed until 2025.

Many Labour politicians and supporters have admitted this today, it’s vital to humbly and honestly self analyse before a winnable new direction is taken.

Shoe-horning marxist Long-Bailey into Corbyn’s job, supported by the awful Burgon, Rayner, McDonnell and Thornberry will be a vote loser on 2025. Making the Tories eternally happy.

I'm sure there will surely be a rethink on the direction of travel, however, by the time of the next election Brexit will have been revealed to be the false dawn that it really is and Boris and this tranche of right wing Tories will own that totally.

There will be no mitigating voices or characters in this upcoming government, no reasonable individuals or groupings that can or will stand against the loons that Boris has surrounded himself with. Expect the axe to fall quickly on any dissenting voices around the Cabinet Table. Boris has lied his way to the top job and his Ministers are already growing better at matching their leaders lies.
Boris and Cummins and the likes of Raab, Gove, Patel and even Hancock now, know they have the majority to push through whatever they want and dress it up as " Best for Britain " Expect a bounce on the markets and the Pound but it won't last when the reality hits.

I didn’t realise until Newsnight yesterday, that Long-Bailey is openly a staunch Corbynista and Momentum supporter. She’s often mentioned on NSC as the next PM, but will that political outlook ever be popular?

The Labour Party HAVE to move away from her like.

Like him or not, Blair was a centrist, and he won (easily) three elections - this is where (IMO) Labour need to move to.

The many did not, however, see it that way. And your assertion that Corbyn seemingly had nothing to do with the shambles, puts you in a minority of one. Yes, no doubt some (many?) folk had their doubts about the incoming PM, but they clearly decided that Corby was simply unelectable.

Good bet. I'm a little annoyed that I didn't pop more on now as a proper misery hedge. I've got a mate who is a trader who's made a lot of money backing against things he wants to happen. Dyed in the wool remainer but made a pile on bets on leave winning and currency trading on the night of the Brexit referendum. I'm assuming he probably went large on Boris. I might text and see if he wants a Christmas drink

After listening to a lot of the leading Labour interviews today, it seems that they still think Corbyn, Momentum , and the Manifesto had nothing to do with the loss, all of which were massively popular.(to them that is, but nobody else) It begars belief that after the biggest drubbing in decades they still think the left wing policy of nationalisation and spend spend spend is the way forward.Corbyn staying on to effectively oversee the transition could lead to a slightly less divisive figure head, but unless Momentum are shown the door, Labour will be in opposition for another 10 years. It only when they were interviewing rank and file moderate Labour ex MPs that the real message came out-Corbyn and momentum are toxic, and despite Labour being told that by almost everyone else they persisted and got exactly what they were told they would get. Think what would have happened if the Torys had a half decent human as leader, Labour would have been possibly the third party!
