How influencial is NSC?

I've seen a lot of threads over the last month, especially when Adams walked arguing that the posts on this board are irrelevant. I would actually beg to differ- especially now around the time that many are criticising Dick Knight.

NSC is seemingly used by both The Argus and The Southern Counties Radio Show broadcast after the matches. Both of these are in regular contact with the club and ask questions to the club sometimes on a very biased view of the supporters based on NSC. Biased because usually postive posters don't post on here- most posts are threads moaning.

So perhaps think a bit more before you post, because really we don't want Dick Knight out, this club can't suffer much more instability..

Hmm, Makes you wonder if NSC had been around when Archer and Belloti were in charge, would question's that needed answers have been raised. We may stiil have the Goldstone today.

I think some people grossly over-estimate the influence of NSC.

It's used by a minority of our total support and a large proportion of those that do use it, are semi-literate keyboard warriers who are more concerned with massaging their own ego, than making a meaningful contribution to the debates.

hopefully it has no influence on the goings on whatsoever, the ask the club and the reply from insider and obviously the weather are the only things that i assume are true.

It was a contributory factor in the sacking of Mark McGhee though, but not for the sacking of Dean Wilkins.

I imagine anyone with any influence or sway with the club would take one look on here, probably think something like "Right what have we got? Hmm a cleaner, some Nazis a few superfans with no lives, some people who bang on about how full their bank accounts are/lovely their wives are/fast their car is, some folks who have never been or will likely ever get laid and a lot of moaning". Not a huge chance they are goingto listen to anything we say really.

So therefore it is a force for good. Excellent. Well done 'Us'.

Absolutely, Mark McGhee was appointed part way during the season in a side that was relegated from the Championship the previous season, and got us promoted that season.

Dean Wilkins was appointed part way during the season in a side that was relegated from the Championship the previous season, and took us to 18th in League one that season.

You are excellent at comparing chalk with cheese to fit your agenda. Want to also compare the two budgets available to the two managers in each instance? What do you think McGhee's wage bill was compared to DW's? I'd say at least twice as much.

But you don't see, the club don't look on here, they take opinions from the radio show and the newspaper who take the biased opinions from here. How many articles has Naylor written using this website, whilst Harty is an active user, quotes off here sometimes and has asked Dick Knight questions which are raised on here...

Well this is the only place to come to where you can get a quick and rough idea of what Albion fans are thinking.

Having said that it IS only rough. We all know that certain posters say the same thing again and again and again, so if you just simply added up the 'Dick Knight Out' posts for example and it came to say 30%, that's not the same thing as saying that 30% of NSC want Knight out.

Also obviously it's only fans who have an internet connection who come on here, and also it's the more die-hard fan rather than casual supporters. Consequently that does mean that the few hundred active NSC members are probably not truly representative of the entire Albion fan base - and it would be unwise for anybody, in the club or the media, to forget that.

In other words, God I hope we have no influence whatsoever.

Don't forget, Archer, Stanley and Bellotti hatched their plan in secret, and then when they were found out, they started telling lies about it. Would NSC have helped at that time? Not sure. Would it have been more effective in the following two years? Possibly, but not definitely. And I would be convinced we'd still have lost the Goldstone. The deal had already been done.

The nature of NSC - and other message forums - has come about BECAUSE of Archer and Bellotti.

There are other contributing factors, of course, such as the massive expansion of the internet in the intervening years, but it doesn't alter the fact that as a result of Archer/Bellotti, NSC has been one conduit in making the club become more accountable and more open - arguably it's the most open club in the league. Sadly, this is also something many people take for granted and like to use it to beat the Albion with, even on the most banal of occasions.

Thank you Alan, I think that is a great reply to the question asked at the start of the thread.

Not to mention starting positions. MM took over a team that the last manager had already set cruising to automatic promotion, then needed the play offs, and a whole lot of luck to get promoted. DW took over a club that was already falling down the League one table.

Compare second seasons: MM just staved off relegation, DW missed out on the play offs because of squad disruption.

Agreed. And regardless of whether the actual posts on NSC have any direct or indirect influence on the actions of the club what NSC IS good at is organising campaigns and stuff like that. Think of the contributions we've made to the Falmer campaign, club fund-rasing, the giant flag (RIP), the banners, the Fans Utd days for other clubs, all the way down to the card you've just done for McNulty.

I think all thise would have been impossible or certainly very difficult without the existence of an independant fans' site. That's NSC influence, not some journalist repeating a few random posts.
