Can see where you are coming from but qualifying for Europe comes under “would be quite nice” for me. Beating Palace comes under ‘f*** YES”
'Would be quite nice'

From The Goldstone to Yerevan, Baku and Bucharest via Gillingham and The Withdean - what a journey.

Far, far better than a one off win against them - which happens quite frequently anyway now.

The longer we're in the Premier League and being exposed to clubs like Chelsea the more I feel a kinship with Palace. We have much much more in common with #TeamsLikePalace than we do with other clubs, both in terms of size, fan demographics, ethos etc.
Given their history of administrations and overpaying players at the expense of building an infrastructure I still like to think there is still no kinship between us.

Ok. Maybe 'ethos' was taking it too far. We do have a lot in common with the fans though.

We might have a better chance of glory against Palace in the next few seasons than getting into Europe. So I'd rather take a defeat to them and get into Europe this season (which is not going to be easy anyway). But I'm enjoying the ride, see what happens.

Europe of course. Silly poll questions though IMO. I don't think we will, but it's possible we could lose to that lot, but 5-0? We never do 0 or concede 5 these days.

Qualifying for Europe would be a great way to piss off Palace so whilst I'd obviously love us to thrash them ultimately finishing higher than they have managed in their time in the PL would be superb.

We may’ve already got beaten like that before (not that I can remember becuase I’ve blanked that day from my memory) but we’ve never been in Europe so I’ll begrudgingly sell my soul to make it happen.

I could handle a defeat, but not 5-0. I think 3-0 would be my limit to balance off with European qualification. Even that feels wrong, though.

This. I would not take a 5-0 loss for qualication. Maybe a streaky 1-0 after scoring an undeserved penalty in the 1st minute with them defending for the rest of the game whilst we pissed all over them.

How important is it for us to beat our friends from South London?
Or are we moving on?
Choose what you would rather happen, no fence sitting, assume we won't beat Palace away and qualify for Europe in the same season - that we would greedy
I don't know if youre old enough to remember when, via the Palace fanzine, they issued notice to cease the rivalry because, quote, they'd moved on and we (ie Brighton) would never get up to their level again?

Angel dust/delusion whatever, we will always live in each others heads to a degree rent free.:)

That is why the rivalry must continue until either one of the clubs ceases to exist, and clearly given from the depths of where we came back from its not going to be us.:bloom:

FWIW we will win 2-0 and still qualify for europe.

When was it that you last beat us?

I remember well giving notice to Brighton as rivals, but I also remember we couldnt find another club that built the same mutual dislike. As long as both sets of fans realise its' not a derby, but a rivalry built on the famous Alan Mullery. There have been memorable good and bad results for both teams over the last few years, and long may it continue. So while I would never want a Brighton win, I like being in the same division for the 2 games a season and the bragging rights that follow one way or the other

Yes, I can remember back to the start of the rivalry.
I wasn't expressing an opinion, rather asking a question given the juxtaposition of all the Can we make Europe / Top 4? threads alongside the Palace game threads. And it got me thinking what the most important thing for this season is for fans. In the previous 5 in the PL and countless others in old Div 3 , Div 2 or Championship, I would have taken beating Palace over almost anything (other than relegation). This season I am not so sure.
I haven't been able to answer my own question, but the current state of the poll is suggesting Europe is what fans want more than anything this season.
