Nope, in Australia.

Rankings and times are only for those who train and participate.

I'd bet there's kids that are u/20 in the UK that could run as fast as those kids with recorded times, But it just doesn't interest them.

It's like saying such and such a boxer is the best fighter in the world. When in fact there's probably hundreds maybe even thousands of guys who could knock them out.

I played in the school football team out here with two guys who ended up in the elite AFL(Football) competition.

The thing was though, they weren't in the top 8 players at the school. They just had the desire and the work ethic to train hard and put in the time to improve their game.

Most of us can do something very well, it's just that we can't be f***ed doing it!

You don`t get to top 10 in the UK rankings without training at under 20 Tyrone. All those boys have recognised coaches by that age, some ex Olympians. I don`t dispute that boys can come out of the pack at under 15 but never at under 17 or under 20. Some boys do come through late in athletics if they come through the schools system as opposed to through the clubs.
There are probably boys out there that could be very fast but they would need a coach to bring their best times out.
I`m not disputing that you ran that time by the way just applauding you for what is a very good performance.

Yup that's the bottom line. Probably some chav kid out there who's like lightning.

Naturally we'll never see them as they'll be at home watching the telly and smoking a few ciggys.

If anyone wants to know what times are run in the UK and for what age groups go to powerof10 and look in the rankings section.

11.6 would rank you at 194th in the UK MikeySmall at under 17.
That would be a good club level time and contesting county honours maybe.

Just checked and 11.6 would have got you a bronze medal.

Im now 30 and would struggle to do it sub 14 seconds! Thanks though ill have a look. At all the meets I ran in there were always kids who could get closer to 11 seconds. This was on grass and without blocks so who knows!!

Was your 10.78 recorded with a stopwatch? If so, they are very dodgy - especially at school events - and could range from 10.5 to 11.3. I'd know!

I held the first under 14 100m record at Sylvania Athletics in my yoof!

(It happened to be the first race where under 14 girl's were allowed to run 100m at that track and was subsequently broken week by week, can't remember the time although it was probably irrelevant)

That`s right. Officials at proper athletics meetings are normally pretty accurate rounding off to the next tenth but schools unless ran at county level - where county officials take over - are notoriously inaccurate and would never be sanctioned by the governing body.

You seem to know a reasonable amount - do you run for a club or anything?

No my running days are long gone. My son runs for Worthing Harriers and has just won the County championship in his age group. He`s got the South of England Inter Counties a week on sunday so I`m well up on times and stuff at the moment. All that chasing him up the stairs when he played up has paid off.

When I was 17 I once got cornered by some skinhead thugs. Offered the chance to fight or flee like a girl, I covered 200 metres in around 11 seconds...
