how excited are poyet and taricco over picking a team to face leicester? I don't mean to be a downer, but I doubt they're any more excited than usual.

It's not about the opposition, it's about the job they've done to date, and are continuing to do. The squad of players they are picking from for tomorrow is the best squad this club has had to pick from for decades.

Still, I don't see them as being particularly excited. The squad isn't hugely different to tuesday's game. Do you really thik they're doing cartwheels because on top of tuesday's squad they now have mattock and reyes? Do you really think they are excited because the squad for tomorrow will undoubtedly be better than the one we had in 1998? Do you think they have given a thought to the level of the squad before they got here?

The squad has been mostly improving since they got here, each season getting better. I don't see them getting especially excited for picking the team for any given game, regardless of the squad.

I imagine they get excited about particular games, or opponents. Excited by potential signings or the clubs future. Team selection not so much.

Maybe they're not that concerned. I am, however, very excited. It's been a bad week, tomorrow is all about the football and the best Brighton team I've had the joy of watching.

Just look at the post match interview that Gus did after the Newcastle game. He is so excited - his hope to progress and improve is still very much on course. We have come through a challenging few months and are now established. Great cup run, awesome stadium, and us "the 12th man" (Buckley's words) - he is bloody loving it!

Have been watcing the Albion since 1979 and this is the best team/squad by far. In the past we have had some great players and some not so great teams but if i had to pick my all time best Albion XI today's team would make up most of the positions to be honest.

Can't wait for tomorrow - bring it on!!!!!!!!

Acker 79, are you really trying to say that the possible available squad today is hardly different to Tuesday??? By my reckoning Mattock, Reyes, vicenti, lua lua and noone are all possibly available today but wasn't tues. That's half a team of what would be definate starters when fit and on form! I would certainly be excited picking a team from today's available squad!!!!

When the mastermind duo first took over here, they inherited an underachieving and, in many cases, undertalented players. ....
Undertalented! I love it! : "He's shit!", "No he's not, he's just undertalented."

But yeah, I agree with you.

You think vicente is a possibility? Aw, bless!

Seriously, though. Lualua has claimed he was fit for newcastle. From Gus's comments, both were fit, but he didn't want to risk them because what happened with Painter - he apparently is going to wait until players are fit, and then wait an extra week. It was a selection choice of his, not a fitness issue.

So, essentially, the difference is reyes and mattock. As good as they are or may be (I don't really know much about mattock) I don't think having them to pick from makes the process of selecting the team any more exciting.

Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against fans being excited about quality of the squad in general. I'm sure excitable ol' gus is very happy with squad and the current set up and the future and potential of the club. I just don't think picking the team for a regular league game is something that gets them (or any manager) particularly excited, regardless of the quality of that squad, and especially not in the context of the squad that was available in the last couple of decades when they had no connection to or interest in brighton whatsoever.

At most I can see them being excited for big cup games, début games, or first games of the season. Even then I'm not sure excited would be the right word.

I think we're excited, and Acker is correct.
