You make the assumption the employer was able to understand yesterday’s car crash.
Well, I’m not sure who the Badger chap is, but the big issue here is that there ARE no clear rules.

At some point, to get out of this crisis, we're going to have to start engaging our brains.
There's people all over the news this morning needing every single scenario spelled out for them.

This attitude is pretty unfair. People have literally just seen the Prime Minister tell them directly - “if you cannot work from home, you should GO TO WORK FROM TOMORROW”
They have ‘had it spelled out to them’ already, from the highest authority.
Well he said they should be "Acively encouraged" to go to work but no mention of who should be doing that encouraging.

You get the distinct feeling that those hmgov minions ordered to parrot the new slogan have zero belief in it. Certainly Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland want nothing to do with it

i suppose it is unclear for anyone who heard the first line and not the next. i wonder how many heard either and received secondhand. what should have been made clearer is for people to talk to employers about returning to work. own goal really, should have thought more about how it would be interpreted, and that more detail would follow.

That's not what he said, or meant. Do you honestly interpret that as "turn up at work without discussing it with my employer"? It's as if some people can only process a single piece of information at a time and forget everything else.

I can't work from home due to the manufacturing job I do. Trouble is, my job is sales dependant and my boss won't want me coming back to work when I have little to do and pay me 100% of my salary all the time he can have me off his payroll on furlough. As for distancing, that's a joke, the RSCPA wouldn't let them keep chickens in the size of area we ( three of us) have to work in.... add to that the staff "room" is about 9'x8' so we'd have to stand staff up against walls for teabreaks and lunches.
He also said :
"We now need to stress that anyone who can’t work from home, for instance those in construction or manufacturing, should be actively encouraged to go to work."
"Actively encouraged" not ( for instance ) instructed.
Meanwhile this advert was put live on Facebook yesterday...
So, the big new news is that if you can’t work from home, go to work. Just social distance. Which is exactly what they said seven weeks ago. How is it in any way new?
Construction sites can now open? Have any of them been out of their mansions in the last seven weeks? Building sites didn’t shut down .
Sky were digging up the road outside my house for a fortnight, ended their work two weeks ago.
A person I know who works in an office has been going in every day for the while lockdown as she “didn’t want to get behind on work”.
Why am I surprised the Tory’s are out of touch? They are always out of touch.

Fair point. I think only the biggest Tory fanboi would try and argue this was anything other than a major f**k up.
They've done it completely arse about face. The detail should've been released first to those who need it e.g employers who can then cascade it down. Then they could release the silly slogans.
The people in the video are beyond help, but I still think there's seemingly intelligent people who aren't engaging their own brain.
