Categorised roughly by genre, then alphabetically
(sad I know but who cares)

Same as.

CD's I'm likely to play on my decks in boxes around said decks, and albums and other CD's I just listen to are on shelves.

Alphabetical, but currently all over the living room floor while I decide where to put my new rack.

Only been about a month deciding so far...

Roughly by genre, then chronological - Rack 1 starts with Queen, then Mercury's solo stuff, then Taylor's, then May's, then smoothly into Clapton, then Dire Straits and so on. It makes sense to me.

all over the place, at least 50 not is their cases in random piles on the shelves, total chaos

vinyl and cds scattered all over the shop, open a cupboard: box of singles, in the wardrobe - more vinyl, open a chest: load of cds - boot of the car, crate full of LPs, on top of the bathroom cabinet - WHOO HOO "Best of Todd Rundgren"

at least I know I haven't got obsessive compulsive disorder

Some in the car, some in the lorry, some in the loft, chaotic scenes.

Worthing
Alphabetical, but split between Classical / Opera (about 800) and the rest (God knows - 2000+).

There was a certain enjoyment in having Shostakovich next to Sharkboy and Mahler next to Siobhan Maher but it all got a bit unwieldy after a while.

One large rack alpha-same as vinyl collection. 2 new very high CD shelving units in a state of chaos that is pissing me off:angry: My fault too!

Totally random. When you have a lot of CDs, it's the best way. It's infrequently annoying when you can't find something you desperately want to play, but you will keep stumbling across albums you've forgotten you have ... and then you play them anyway and rediscover some lost classic. I do the same with my LPs, and I have even more of thoase. Books, however, are by approximate genre - I have to do that because of work. I often need to find things quickly.

Mine are sorted alphabetically by artist and then chronologically. It's a fantastic system and not at all sad!

Over 300 CD's and I know exactly where they all are, even those annoying ones like The Squirrell And G Man where the text is tiny.
