How do you define what constitutes a 'sport' ?

Can I throw another word into the ring, although this might complicate matters somewhat, the difference between a sport and a game.

I have always considered darts to be a pub "game", just like pool, snooker, bar-billiards etc. There is no denying that all involve great skill, tactics and manual dexterity but none of them are particularly physically demanding. I would say that for something to be considered a sport it should involve physical training to meet the rigours of what is being attempted. In that respect golf is just about a sport as you need to get off your lardy arse and lug a bag of sticks over hill and dale in order to get that little white ball in a hole.

This question was something my old sixth form sports studies teacher made us debate and write essays on. Can't for the life of me remember what the correct answer was though.
