You have to be a bit of a bellend and like controlling people.

I think that should read:

You have to be one of those people who is happy to control and ban bellends.

The more bellends are banned the more people use the board. Tends to work well.

Or is just thinking that the board is well moderated automatic qualification because it is at odds with those who wish free reign to be bellends ?

If you can ask the question "who are the moderators" - the moderators are doing their job properly. A bit like the referee who doesn't get noticed....

It's a thankless task (I run another forum, away from football) and the Modus Operandi is : let the chat flow freely, but stamp on any bell-endery immediately. Works well... everyone is happy.
