It’s quite something to do over an extended period of time isn’t it. To do it and then be compelled to keep repeating the crime. Whoever is guilty of it is going to be psycho-analysed for the rest of their days. I would imagine they will be admitted to a secure psychiatric facility as opposed to a mainstream prison.

Criminal damage and packing a blade? A fine, and probably an insultingly low one at that.

I can't believe how lenient the sentences currently are for animal cruelty. The maximum sentence at the moment is only six months which is why Bouquet is being charged with criminal damage as that carries a sentence of up to 10 years.

I've also just learnt that there is a law specific to the use of electronic collars which carries a prison sentence of up to 51 weeks but for some reason this law only applies to Wales.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove announced a new bill this year to enable tougher prison sentences for the worst animal abusers.

The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill will raise the maximum sentence from the current six months to a maximum of five years which still seems pretty lenient.

Then we need judges and sentencing guidelines to see these people jailed.

Too often the dog, badger, fox or horse torturer walks away smirking with a de facto let off of other ‘punishments’.

My neighbours cat was beheaded and left in the road outside their house not six weeks ago.

Was taking my 22 month old to nursery when I found it. No head, clean cut and no blood.

Subsequently found out from the vet who collected the body for forensic testing that there have been a few.

Police time is limited for this type of thing, which I accept, however their laughable judgement that it was either run over or a Fox did it is ridiculous.

IMHO a person who does this is incredibly close to escalating to people. Really sick.

Many serial killers start off by torturing or killing animals before "graduating" to humans. As an earlier poster recommended watch the Netflix documentary "Don't F*** With Cats". It deals with precisely that issue and how the police failed to listen to the warnings of an internet group who were trying to track down a man who was posting videos on the internet of himself killing cats. When the police finally did listen it was a little late as what the group had predicted would happen eventually did happen.

Him or Timmy. Timmy or him.

Who is the bigger ****?

Tough call. No, not really; it’s pretty easy to make the call:

Piss off, Timmy

And this is the reason why the police should be taking animal cruelty far more seriously than they do. Many serial killers started out abusing animals, often when fairly young.

It would be an interesting long term academic study to establish whether the police taking animal abuse / cruelty seriously would result in a reduction in human murders. But to do that, the authorities need to properly address the problem and there's no sign of that happening any time soon.

No one does this without serious mental illness. The answer to the question in the topic is that he likely got serious issues living with himself but that suicide is a pretty big decision most avoid no matter how sick they are.

Not necessarily.

Is every serial killer, torturer, person who committed crimes at concentration camps, or bear or badger baiter mentally ill? These people are inhumane, harming animals often a trait. They don’t deserve the excuse of being ill. Some people are just vile scum.
