The Premier League Environmental Sustainability Commitment might need a bit of a tweek.

I suppose team could pay for a few thousand trees to be planted somewhere ... None in Preston Park though, they'll just be smashed up by arseholes.
Exactly this. Personally, I find the "Carbon-neutral" pre season tours are already a step far enough.
If we must have a league game abroad, make it one of those on the pre-season,(yeah yeah I know) and be done with it.

It might be the tip of the iceberg. Once that precedent is set, how do we step away from it.

I haven't watched the video yet. But what if the appetite grows in the USA off the back of league games getting played out there, I could see the European Super League idea getting replaced by a global franchise league with the big european teams, and a couple of franchises in the US, Saudi, China or Japan.
That's been my take on the 'super league' from the moment it was mentioned. I've felt that that was the logical conclusion of the 'world's game' for a while now.

More than the state owned clubs it's the American owned ones that worry me the most. Those guys have no soul or understanding of anything other than the almighty $$$$

I think you're right. American sports history is littered with franchise teams moving between cities. I don't think American owners would think twice about carving up European leagues to create a global league to generate more money. And with Saudi money buying up sport left right and centre, its not hard to conceive of some ghastly Fifa World League.

Yeah. Once the European super league goes ahead it's only a small jump to a world league. There's far more people and money to be made outside of Europe.

Thoroughly depressing.

It is time to do something different, so I'm not averse to losing a match. It would be pretty cool to see the Albion playing at home in - say - Tokyo or New York.

Furthermore, I would also like to see the League Cup scrapped and be replaced by a shorter form of the game like a T20 with 4 indoor venues, 5 teams in each in a round robin 20 mins per match x 10 matches. The 4 group winners then play off with the bottom 2 contesting a Bronze match and the top 2 playing off for a trophy.

The losing teams would have to be gunk tanked, and any game that is drawn is decided by mallet's mallet.

La Liga are actively trying to get games in the USA for the 2025/26 season, so if that goes ahead successfully then I can see the Premier League wanting to get in on the action as well. Depressing.

Personally, I think staging the Charity Sheild in different overseas locations would be a reasonable suggestion.

Then it will be the FA Cup final. Then Champions League (if not before).

Once this sh1t starts, they'll be no stopping it...

Must say i did enjoy that indoor 5 a side club tournament (retired players?) that was on years ago.

I fear it's inevitable, but if we were to toss them a bone or two (rejuvenating the league cup as well, perhaps?) then that might kick it down the road for a while, before the more prestigious competitions are messed around with.

I think there would be too much resistance with the FA Cup being moved. One off semi competitive cup games *might* even be a positive thing, but league matches should be sacrosanct

Many sports have opted for a shortened version in order to boost interest - rugby 7s is now an Olympic sport, T20 has revolutionised cricket. In fact I think it would be a damn sight easier on clubs if the Olympics medal event was 6-a-side football rather than the overblown 11-a-side that nobody outside South America gives a shit about but which causes so much hassle with players away on international duty.

People can relate to 6-a-side, when you have multiple clubs in one place and teams not on the pitch there is opportunity to interact with fans. Indeed, an official Premier League 6-a-side competition could be hosted in one of these overseas locations instead of a Premier League game.

People say there is too much football for elite players, but for me they should bin off all League Cup and all international friendlies. International football would be much more exciting if players just rocked up the day before. The only England friendly that really pushed my buttons was when we beat Argentina in Switzerland 3-2 under Sven in 2005. That's a lot of meaningless football.
