Or, if you don't like the reasons behind people's various efforts to minimise it, you could always pretend it's impossible to reduce it ???

My guess is the reasons are about feeling better about yourself rather than any realistic expectation of bringing about change.

Like me you are old enough to remember ‘boycotting Barclays bank’ because of links to South Africa - wasn’t it Benson and Hedges as well?

Of course I could be wrong, it might not be as futile as Canute.

Indeed.

You can be a vegetarian without being required to patrol the country lanes at night to save animals from becoming road kill, or snatching worms out of the beaks of sparrows, and forcing your cat to eat Weetabix (with Oat 'milk').

Well obviously you can't avoid everything, but I would think anyone with any sort of moral compass would do what they could (y)

I own a business.

If you allow for UK to US scale I would say that Boris was at least the moral equivalent of Trump.

I’m glad I wasn’t targeted because of that.

My plan to avoid going the US completely this year was completely scuppered by Air France. I was supposed to be taking a direct flight from Paris to Toronto on Monday, but there was some issue with the plane and they decided I was one of the people to get booted off the replacement flight in a smaller plane. So, they put my on a later replacement flight connecting in Detroit. To say I was fuming, would be an understatement. It took me 26 hours to get from Malta to Toronto and I had to enter the US.

Air France can go f*** themselves.
My partner and I have also decided to avoid going into the US this year. Decided our trip this year is Toronto/Ottowa/Montreal/Quebec. Little 10 day road trip at the end of August. My partner has friends from school who live in Toronto, so staying with them in midtown for a couple of nights. We got Oasis tickets

I wonder which British sycophantic politician these posters who are now claiming it's completely pointless to boycott the USA support. Maybe the one who's been very quiet ever since he actually managed to become an MP at the seventh attempt.

Probably just coincidence ???

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use WhatsApp and I’m convinced both my younger friends and my mother don’t understand phones can text and receive/make calls.

While digging around for non-US alternatives I came across the list linked to below. It covers a lot of everyday tech services (cloud services, email providers etc) and shows a lot of (mainly European) alternatives to US services. I can’t vouch for the services suggested on it, but it may be helpful to some.

Whilst I admire the underlying sentiment, it's probably fair to say that you'll have your work cut out.

As a Canadian boycotting American goods I can tell you that the work is front loaded and only needs to be done once. It's a bit daunting at first but very easy a few weeks on.

As for people saying it won't make a difference, it already is. Just a few weeks in and our grocery stores are tagging Canadian products to make it easier to find them, and it made it easier to drop my regular brands and switch to local brands.

If this goes worldwide the US/International companies will definitely notice.

Well from my perspective I think this is utterly pointless and at the same time unaware of who you are talking about. Added to this I am not sure why people are calling for a boycott, I guess it's many and varied reasons. But then I can think of reasons to boycott products made in many other countries, all equally pointless.

There are obviously quite a number of away games you won't be able to go to: Arsenal, Liverpool, Palace, Chelsea, Everton, Man U, Villa, Bournemouth, Ipswich etc, all owned or part owned by Americans.
I suppose there is all the more reason to boo one or two of those teams now 😉
