How bent is boxing

Burns is huge for a lightweight! He could move up to light welter quite easily in my view. That said he doesn't have much power even at lightweight so he would struggle against heavy hitters in that division - of which there are plenty. Kahn is moving up to welterweight anyway so I'm not going to see that fight anyway...

Agree with the rest though. I'm more looking forward to Mathysse vs Garcia more than Mayweather vs Canelo.

Matthyse v Garcia is a brilliant match up . Hard to see anyone taking a bomb off Matthyse especially how he turned Peterson to jelly . I like Garcia though and think he can be smart in this . If Garcia comes through then he is the real deal . Would like Garcia to win but could easy be k.o .
Again respect for taking fight as didn't have to .

Canelo talked up v may weather . Good fight but can't see floyd losing

Ricky burns gets battered for 12 rounds as well as suffering a knockdown & somehow gets away with a draw.
His opponent spent 12 rounds on the front foot coming forward how on earth was that a draw.
This.

The Mexican is 32 and had put his life on hold, probably got into debt, will never get a chance again, and then this.........scandalous.

Just about sums it up. Its a business not a sport. The boxers, sadly, are just the pawns.
The promoters/managers are too powerful and call all the shots. If they want a boxer to lose he will lose. They don't give a shit. Any sport that can allow Don King to rule the roost for years is beyond help. Hearn has always been a hustler and dear old Frank learnt all his tricks being an errand boy for East End Mobsters. ( Lucky Terry marsh was a poor shot! )
And its no better anywhere else.

As previous posters have said, its been happening for a very long time. Any sport with a lot of money sloshing around will attract the worst elements of society.
Sonny Liston was the prime example of a boxer managed and controlled by the 'Mob ' The two fights with Clay/Ali were dubious in the extreme, with Liston's 64 second capitulation in the second, beyond a joke. ( He even told his own wife that he was going down in the first! )
When Henry Cooper fought Joe Bugner in his last fight he won by a country mile. All the pundits agreed apart from Harry Gibbs, the referee, who gave it to Bugner. Clearly a fix. The young pretender had more to gain than the old retiring champion. The trouble was..the British public never forgave Bugner.
And so on..until present day. They are still fixing fights and still getting away with it. Every time it happens it leaves a smell which never quite goes away
Boxing is spoilt by those who run it. The promoters and managers. Spivs and undesirables. Hustlers and crooks. All the good work that the ' straight ' ones do is undone by the ' not so straight '

Mo then again this is why we love the sport, despite the likes of King, Hearn, Warren, Duff etc, Ive met both Sir Henry and Joe Bugner, one was a gent the other a complete ****, but I've also watched the complete fight from the 1970's twice over and IMHO unfortunately Harry Gibbs was right, the **** deserved his victory, and I think you'll find some of the pundits agreed with the decision, The Sun's legendary Colin Hart being one of them.

Hope so mate

I hope the better fighter wins I'm not that fussed which. Mayweather actually seems to have grown up a bit in his old age, we aren't hearing any of the old trash talking. Maybe he's seen what a prick Adrian Broner looks with his antics...

Very serious talk that Floyd's next fight will be in London, sadly almost certainly against Amir Kahn which is a total mismatch. Kahn doesn't deserve it in the slightest, but FMJ knows Kahn will put bums on seats and get the PPV buys. I'd actually rather see him fight a boxer from another country in London rather than Kahn.

I like Burns, he is one of the good guys. But he isn't world class. Hearn made sure he didn't fight Adrian Broner when he was bossing the lightweight division and basically fed Burns domestic/borderline European level fighters. Not unlike Nathan Cleverly who has also just been badly exposed.

Talk is Burn's broken jaw might end his career, which would be very sad. If he does pull through then personally if like to see him vacatate his belt, go up to light welter, get a few easy wins and maybe try and get Amir Kahn to take a big money Battle of Britain fight.

I think Broner is madly overrated though, and I think the Broner fight would of been better suited to Burns, Broners defense is sh!t and hes not exactly a come forward fight like Beltran. Ricky is a good boxer as he showed in the Martinez fight.

I think Hearn would of got Burns bigger fights than the last two hes had, had he not been inactive for so long in Frank's stable. But the poor performance in the Gonzales fight meant he needed a 'routine' fight to look good in and gain confidence, well that went wrong haha It's put both Hearn and Burns in a tricky spot now.

Like you say a move up to 140 is a possibly, I think hes gonna be out for along time so he will probably be stripped of his wbo title, so when he comes back he will will probably be mandatory challenger if hes wants it, but I guess he will want a tune up fight. Theres a few options for him, he needs to be cautious when hes comes back, that fight could of fu*cked with head, like you say he may retire according to Hearn, if he does come back I think he needs a better trainer.

I read a good book last year, every fighter in them days where controlled by the Mob, apart from SRR apparently.

Terrible decision, one of the worst decisions Boxing has ever had and will ever likely to have.

Eddie Hearn must take that rematch in the States, no wonder I watch UFC now.

not even close lol and ufc a totally different sports, its like saying you watch rugby now because you dont like footballers diving. the best thing they have is one governing body so fighters cant judge opponents.

It will be forgotten by this time next week

agreed, the floyd/canelo fight will soon wipe memories, and the american public didnt care for ricky burns before this fight so i doubt they are demanding a rematch, and beltran is particularly popular either, i dont even think any american tv networks picked up the fight in the first place, so im guessing most americans didnt see the fight.

Can't wait for the Floyd fight, just hope Canelo makes the weight and I may just take a look at the odds for the draw
