It was more like 6 hours after the event. I can’t remember where I found it, but I thought it was too good to be true when I did. I’ve even chosen my seats and already checked in.
This is also odd, check-in isn't usually open until 7 days or 24 hours before flight via BA. Might be different with their Vueling flights..

Indeed. I just checked and vueling is 7 days before the flight check-in.

This prompted me to check direct on the Vueling website and it let me check in, that option wasn't available on the BA app yet. Cheers

On this note, Vueling still have some fairly reasonable flights from LGW left if you go onto their website and book with just hand luggage.
Showing 125,98 EUR out Wednesday and back early Saturday

EasyJet from Luton to Milan on the Wednesday evening (only £19 each)

Stay in a cheap and cheerful hotel near to the main station in Milan on Weds evening.

Train from Milan to Rome early on Thurs morning

Day of fun in Rome on the Thurs (hopefully)

Stay in a hotel near to Rome central station on Thurs evening

Train from Rome back up to Milan Fri afternoon

Ryanair Milan Malpensa to Stansted on Friday evening (only £27 each)

I’m hoping I can get tickets for the game now, as I’m not in tier 1. But if I can’t, I’ve only lost out on the cost of the flights, which isn’t much

I ended up looking at easyJet package deals last night and took the plunge. I'm on the 6.45am flight out on Tuesday morning and the 'sold out' 13.10pm back on Friday (thanks to @essbee1 for spotting my deliberate mistake :sneaky: ). Hotel near the station, bag in hold and booked seats for less than £500 (including £50 off as part of its current sale). Cheaper than the flight only options I'd been looking at, which is bizarre.

Are you leaving Rome before the match starts then? ;)

Stressful day yesterday coming back on the train from Edinburgh trying to book flights with shit Wi-Fi. Had flights booked from Stansted at the payment stage three times only to get kicked out saying flights not available at this price!
Eventually got flights from Birmingham via Barcelona, (3 hour wait) then on to Rome on the Wednesday with Vueling (never heard of them!) then direct back on the Friday with Jet2. Booked Hotel Morgana near the train station for easy access in and out.

Lots of prep and had my finger on the pay button for Rome when the balls came out and suffered same fate as many others from the sound of it….when it became obvious what happened had one more go, at hugely increased prices, on Eaysjet and told payment failed again…reverted to Wizz LgW-Naples on Wednesday early evening and then back from Naples midday on Friday.

Got hotel near Naples station for Thursday night and trains booked to Rome on Thursday morning, hotel near station in Rome on Thursday night and train back to Naples on Friday morning. Trains were cheap as chips so we paid something silly like a tenner each to go first class and only takes just over an hour.

£260 pp all in so happy tbh

Was disappointed not to get the EJ direct ones we wanted but having seen a few different routes mentioned on here I’d say via Napoli one of the better alternatives

Enjoy the trip whatever route you’re taking 👍

It will all be programmatic as the flights hurriedly get booked up and seat availability shrinks.

I knew that which is why I got on it as soon as our name came out. Others were faster though - it's the way it goes.

Its called peak load pricing. Companies watch the draw as well and as soon as the draw comes out they just flick a switch to maximise revenue from however many 1000s of Sussex people are heading to Rome.

The only way to beat it is if you can get refundable deposits on all possible flight destinations or the cost of the deposits are less than the extra money you have had to shell out now.
