Some cracking times. Did it for the first time today and managed 25.46 .. Looks like I've got some catching up to do! Almost 300 runners this morning and all organised by volunteers .. Nice one!

How does that bar code business actually work? Do you have to swipe it at the start & finish?

I was curious about this as well. Nothing happens at the start line, other than the starting chap saying 'go.'

But when you finish you get a token with a bar code. These are handed out in the strict order of finish. There is also someone at the end with a timing device. They press a button every time someone crosses the finish. Your token and your barcode ID are then swiped. I guess, if you finished 20th, your token will reflect this and you will be assigned the 20th split time on the device. Simple but effective, I timed myself at 22:28 and got an official time of 22:29.

Ah, I see. Like you say - simple but effective.

Quite amazing the fact that they're getting 250ish runners and its all run by volunteers. Great stuff.

I agree, it has a really nice vibe as well. My favourite moment was when some super-dad whizzed past me pushing a double-buggy with his two kids gripping on for dear life. One child's wrap-round shades kind of accentuated the speed. Excellent stuff.

Due to my Goldstone boycott I'd also forgotten how nice Hove Park is.

Right, I now need to work on my time.

And to make it even worse, when passing me he was talking to his children without even sounding out of breath!!

Yeah, he was. You're right. He was asking the children to tell him whether they were going up hill or down hill when he went past me.

Me and the Frau will be grinding round the park once again. Although my legs are a bit buggered. Too many beers on Wed night and then an 8 miler yesterday with some running up Mill Rd....ouch.

Ah yes, I moved into a new marathon age category last year. Being the youngest in a new age range spurred me on no end.
