The wife's birthday on 17th so I need something a bit swanky to get her up to Liverpool. Anything nice in the city Centre with parking?

Liverpool Hilton. Right next to Liverpool One, the main shopping centre, with underground parking nearby.

Is the Adelphi still going ? Was there a couple of years ago , parking and right next to Lime Street Station for either option , nice place quite expensive .

Yes. There is a Sapporo restaurant (google it) which is fun. Tell them it's your birthday...

Edit - sorry just realised you said hotel - not sure, I haven't heard of one.

Is the Adelphi still going ? Was there a couple of years ago , parking and right next to Lime Street Station for either option , nice place quite expensive .

It's still there. Not sure about expensive? it's usually one of the cheapest going- for good reason. Hasn't been painted since the 80's.

I do. That was just before I started to work in Liverpool (11 years ago!). I stayed there once but it's pretty grim. There are far nicer hotels in the city centre but it is good for anyone on a budget and handy for the station.

Hotels in Liverpool are generally pretty rubbish like most northern towns. I will probably stay at Hilton.

My favourite restaurant in Liverpool is alma de Cuba.... Nice bar there as well

Yes , think she was still there when i first went . It was getting a little shoddy at the end , shame it was built in the style of the Titanic as people stayed there before leaving on the ship , don't think many people re-booked

You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I'm not sure Liverpool hotels are any worse than you would find in Brighton (probably the opposite in my experience). If you want something nice then Hilton, Malmaison, Crowne Plaza, Raddison Blu, Marriott are all perfectly OK. Lots of smaller "boutique" hotels are available as well and I have stayed in many nice ones after office nights out.

There are quite a few cheap guest houses and b&b's near anfield listed on GetRoomsCheaper com but looks like some are already full.
