Err, yes, Dave some were.
Are you familiar with the road going up Ditchling Beacon? If you know it well you will recall that there are breaks between the steep sections where it levels out a little bit. The sole reason for this is horses with carts going downhill - the little level bits are there to enable the carts to slow down a little as the horse can't get a good grip going down hill with the weight of the cart pushing behind it.

I was grateful for the mounted police escort out of Cold Blow Lane after the playoff semi-final but otherwise as the old cliche goes I think horses are dangerous at both ends and uncomfortable in the middle :lol:
