So i went in for a ‘simple extraction’
Well, let’s just say I was in the chair for an hour and a half - covered in blood with a snapped tooth and shrapnel left in my jaw that all manner of Homebase tools failed to remove. I’ve had stitches and, you know what, I feel like shit.
Apparently I have curved roots - thus removing my teeth is like pulling up a 250 year old beech with a garden spade.
Anyone else had a similar experience... ? I ended up with two dentists in the room - at that point I was about ready to cry. They were panic stricken - I actually thought; I’m going to throw up... man! that sucked.
Actually I think I’m about to cry now.
Similar story.
I was referred to the maxillofacial surgeon at the Royal Sussex County by my regular dentist to take out 2 wisdom teeth.
A lovely, chatty guy, said it was his last day at RSCH. I immediately hoped that it wouldn't be like one of those movies where an old cop has a REALLY bad last day (usually after he's handed in his gun) and said as much to the surgeon, who took it a bit literally and said he still had all of his drills...
The local anaesthetic worked its magic and he began, chatting away as he went (a mostly one-sided conversation as you can imagine). As time went on, the chat reduced and was replaced by a few grunts, hmmmmms and "sorry about this - it's proving a bit tricky". Several changes of drill, grips with pliers and him pretty much with a knee on my chest for leverage later, still no joy. The spatter of blood across his clear visor when he was in close at one stage was a little disturbing, as was his increasingly apologetic tone. He asked if I was ok to carry on - he thought he was nearly there, but was having trouble with a curved root that was very firmly in place (he had snapped off the top and had to drill out and pull any remaining fragments as best he could). He called a colleague in and between them, they got there in the end. He said he wouldn't put me through it again for the 2nd tooth and that he recommended booking in for a general anaesthetic for the other, which had an equally curved root.
I was only in there for half an hour apparently, but when I walked out to meet my girlfriend in the waiting area, I was as white as a sheet and a bit wobbly on my feet.
The only good thing was that I was given a load of tramadol for the pain, so spent the next few days off my t|ts
I feel your pain Kosh, but enjoy the meds!!
