Anyone remember the old boy Horace who could be seen at the Findon or Broadwater roundabouts with his bike - waving and gesturing at passing cars? normally dressed up in a striped suit and straw boater with a pair of big specs on.

Oh yes, he was a fully paid up :jester:

I remember once he was by the pier in Worthing with what can only be described as a portable Karaoke machine from the 60s, you know, 8 track player, microphone etc. He was singing along to some old time songs, then all of a sudden would go all abusive shouting things like "f*** off you old cow" to the passers by. Then he'd carry on crooning to the music.

We used to refer to him as Burlington Bertie. Used to see him a lot 1980 - 1986 haven't seen him since.

I'd have paid a SMALL FORTUNE just to sit and watch something like that :(

Believe me, you only would only pay a very small amount to see him, his singing was dreadfull.

Then again, you can't beat a slightly touched and very camp OAP shouting "Oi, stinky c**t" to some granny taking a walk on the prom :lolol:

I remember him well.

I worked one summer whilst at Uni at the Marleybone Optical Factory which used to be next to the Ham Pub. I think it's been knocked down now and is now a car showroom. He swept the floors there and I think he'd been there about 40 years. He used to swear like a navvy but was a real good laugh.

The bloke i was working with, Greg Pearce, later told me that he had died a few years ago.

Quite, quite mad. A real character.

I do remember seeing him from time to time however I must be getting old as I can't really see anything that funny about some ancient looney hurling expletives at passers by for absolutely no reason.

When I was a kid we had loads of''eccentrics' in Worthing besides Horace.

Where have they all gone. I reckon the bloody government have taken them. Bit of a coincidence that they all dissapeared at about the same time. Why can`t we be told the truth.

I grew up in Tarring and there was a bloke near the bridge on the North side by the Working men's Club who had the biggest forehead in the world - ever. Used to beat kids with his walking stick - quite randomly and unprovoked.

Another guy used to live around Ely / Lincoln Road who apparently survived a concentration camp in WWII. Used to dribble a lot and always wore a green knitted jumper.

Another bloke was a kiddie fiddler called Malcolm I remember when I used to go to 5th Worthing Boys Brigade - v.worrying when I look back on it.
