I hope he stays and gets to play in an Albion team with some confidence. He alone is not our problem and shouldn't be scapegoated.

He is not and never will be a natural goalscorer at this level. Let's take off the rose tinted specs, the lad has not got what it takes, and won't have in the Championship next season either. Not his fault just the brutal truth.

The worst thing after that chance was Potter clapping / applauding him ?! I’d have been going mental for taking it off Welbeck

But, but, NSC said he was a £50m player after that Tottenham match.

I’d loan him out, he has potential but he’s not a starting premier league player yet. Loan him out, and splash some cash on a decent striker. Bring in Tau for some more creativity & Moder to give some stability in the midfield.

No point getting down on him, his game isn't about finishing headers, he's only 5ft tall! He's proven his goalscoring credentials in the lower leagues but he's never going to be one for finishing off crosses.

No he hasn't. Never.

He's far from being shit, but he's obviously struggling at the moment. I really believe, though, that a half season loan in January to a League1 club to bang in a few goals for fun and get his mojo back would be the best thing now.

He's not proven anything in the lower leagues because his experience of lower league football totals about 30 mins while on loan to Luton. His goal scoring record in youth and in the under 23s is decent but that means nothing as football is littered with players who were good/great when playing against people their own age but lacked something when stepping up to first team football. It's not entirely Aaron's fault because a key part of his game is pace and we are so slow in our build up play that when the ball does arrive with him he's marked by a 6ft 4 central defender who he'll never beat in the air, he's shown his ability to beat defenders for pace in a footrace with the ball but we haven't utilised that enough this season.

The header today was incredibly poor decision making, Welbeck should be screaming at Connolly to leave it, Aaron was always going to underneath that header and he should have realised that and left it to the taller player.

He’s 20 years old and has been probably been promoted to the first team squad too soon. Clearly a mistake to play him before Welbeck, but that isn’t his fault. Needs a loan and will probably come back an improved player.

In hindsight, Hughton was right to not promote him when he was scoring for fun in the U23s 2 seasons ago.

I have never been that convinced with Connolly as a finisher. He seems to have one "type" of finish that he is comfortable with, dropping in side and bending to the far corner (Tottenham last season, Burnley last season, Newcastle this for example). His running and movement is useful, so it really is a test of his appetite to improve and the coaches/finishers around the club to help get better..

Connolly is very effective against sides trying to play a high game against us. His finishing and awareness of those around him isn’t great but would hope it would improve.
Potter should have subbed him when they went down to 10 and started sitting back.

I think you will find there is a lot of middle ground between abusing a player and giving him a cuddle. But you keep up your knee jerk NSC attitude.

I’m not saying abuse him, but that definitely did not deserve a clap / applaud

Take the Spurs game out of it and he has 2 league goals in 19 starts + 14 appearances as a sub.

or, take out the Spurs game and he's got 2 in 40 games in all competitions.

...and we took the piss out of Benteke

Yup - one good game for us in his career. Remember Brian Wade? When we were in the top flight last time around. Scored 4 goals at home to Newcastle. His subsequent few games after that were poor & he never played again. Yet Connolly gets a place week in ?

He really is absolute pony. How many goals has he scored now? 3? He's leauge 1 level. Can't think of anyone more shit than him since Leon Best.

He's 2 foot from goal and the ball is on a plate for Welbeck and he blunders his way in and manages to backwards header it in the opposite direction to goal.

He's a young lad. Should be farmed out to a lower level to complete his footballing education. Obviously. Oh, and maybe put on a bit of a non-spud-based diet also
