I've got a miele thats over 7years old, has had to pull up some serious dirt in its time (building rubble when i gutted the place) and has lasted longer and kept its looks better than the girlf who originally bought it.

We have a Panasonic upright. Thoroughly recommended, solid fast and reliable. I prefer it to Dysons and Mieles I have owned in the past. Before this one we had a 50 quid Samsung, which was totally useless.

Score another for Panasonic upright. Ours is 25 years old.
We gave is a service two years ago because it wasn't picking up as well as it used to. £25 including a new mains lead, and it's as good as new.

Marvellous machine.

Ours has finally died. After months of having to stand on the on/off switch just to keep it (tricky as you drag you thing along behind you) i think its finally bitten the big scone. Zero suction.

Tempted to buy another Henry mainly because they are only a oner and they are pretty much bullet proof (the one thing the ex wife ensured me i would NOT be taking was Henry), but are there any better options?

Not too keen on doing my balls on a Dyson because i've heard they are built about as well as a paper hat so something cheap, durable and preferably with a smiley face (although face not essential)

I need a new one too. Have a Dyson and think it is absolutely awful. Terrible design, very user unfriendly. Has lasted about 6 or 7 years, I guess, not that I use it much, personally. Will be looking shortly for a replacement, unlikely to be another Dyson.

I can't actually recommend it because I haven't bought one yet, but our current vacuum cleaner is getting to be more trouble than it's worth and I've been looking at the Gtech AirRam. The latest British cleaning innovation, apparently, and the customer reviews are very good.
