It's a straight forward question
Context.

We are not doing anything about the Saudi regime.

So does that mean it's OK for Leeds fans to sing homophobic chants?

As I said, whataboutery.

You have clearly shown you don't understand the issue, today, at Leeds

Well if being offended at “F***ing gay c*nt” and “ran away from an aids test” is being overly offended then SIGN ME UP.
Saying those things are potentially hate crimes and the police should be involved.

Chanting "Does your boyfriend know you're here" and "we can see you holding hands", while crass and in poor taste, probably do not constitute hate crimes.

We live in promising times with how we are dealing with discrimination of minority groups... but it's surely still important that we remain grounded.

I have said that any form of homophobic abuse is unacceptable, I wasn't at the Leeds game so I don't understand the full gravity of the situation that happened

Well then, perhaps we would all benefit from a period of your silence on the matter.

What you heard on the radio was dependent upon where they placed the microphone. I was in the away end right next to their loudest support and heard it sung once in response to Albion fans singing ‘you’re going down with the Palace.’ Brighton fans also responded with ‘you’re going down on your brother.’ Plenty of Brighton bellends spending the whole match making wanker gestures at the Leeds fans. Let’s look a little closer to home before parading superiority complexes and righteous moral indignation over others.
Enjoyable game by the way. We played really well but Leeds did a decent job in not falling into the traps. Plenty of friendly locals both before and after the game.

Yes I do and that was individual racism to an individual where as the Brighton gay thing is a generalisation who cares! As I said before get over it. Unfortunately being a 90' s child you know it all so be proud that you have an opinion on everything but you actually know nothing.
Guys, I think you should listen to this guy because he's a proven expert in the field of knowing nothing.

No but if I was, my boyfriend would know I was there so what's the problem. Get over it.
What a f***ing melt - pathetic

so from saying ‘I am a 90s child’ you’ve claimed I think I ‘know it all’ and I ‘know nothing’ - just wow - the Internet and opinions like this is the real shame in this day and age - talk about judgemental 🤫

Ah well. I thought this thread would be a great gesture of togetherness against discrimination in football. Turns out there’s a number who feel it’s ok and a laugh. Losing my faith a little in humanity with that if I’m honest. And no, it’s not ‘faux outrage’ it’s what’s right and wrong and what we shouldn’t be hearing in 2023. Shame.

We’re supposed to represent a county and City that call out this sort of shit 🙁

The dull part of the south coast
I thought I’d chuck my twopenny worth in on this. At the start of the season I was making my way down to Southampton train station to travel to our home game against Newcastle. Coming towards me were a load of Man Utd fans who had just arrived for an early kickoff against Saints. As we passed one wag turned to me and shouted “F***ing Brighton knobhead!”

Now, as we had just beaten them up at Old Trafford in the previous week I really couldn’t resist my response :
“One, two, one, two, are you receiving? Over.” I walked away from the situation unscathed. :drink:

To be fair and to put into context:
We sung about Saville
We sung about them going down on their mother
We sung about them not having jobs

Who is the judge that says our chants are better than theirs?

Who is the arbiter of righteousness?

You opened the thread really aggressively.

"f***ing scum"

This is an overreaction to chants that are certainly not new, or unique to Leeds fans. The chants are mildly offensive, but not as offensive as "f***ing scum", the term you used to describe a group of people in your opening post.

While we should try to be offended at all things which marginalise minority groups, it's surely just as important that we try to remain composed and encourage education, rather than resort to aggressive insults and demand authoritarian actions. Society is in a transitionary period where many people will not be aware or mindful over what is and isn't acceptable in regards to rapidly evolving political correctness. This is applicable to Leeds fans today, who when it comes down to it, I'm confident are not all 'f***ing scum' - they simply do not know any better.

Remember there’s a Palarse interloper trying to disrupt it.
