Essentially every single post you've ever made in any thread is the same thing just reworded slightly. In short, anyone with a different opinion or world view to to your own is a bigot and ignorant. Well done though in figuring out a hundred different ways of saying it.
So many do gooders on this thread sharing empty words of sympathy with homeless people without being any more active about doing anything about it than the rest of us. Got a spare room or bed have you? Why not let one of our local friendly homeless persons have it for a while! Didnt think so. I know, I'm such a nasty person for having no sympathy for these poor souls, might have something to do with having been kicked punched and spat at by a number of them and having my property stolen by them. Still its not their fault is it, its always someone elses or a problem for the rest of us to sort out.
As far as you are concerned we are not allowed to have sympathy for homeless people or to consider the circumstances that made them so unless we invite them to live in our houses. i wonder if this logic carries over to other situations? I cannot have sympathy for your cancer as i am not in a position to cure it. Sorry but i think your logic is massively flawed.
Same goes for your logic about not having sympathy for them because some of them have spat at you or stole from you. I think you are doing the same as Somerset in that you are taking a small sample of people and defining all other by it. The fact is that this is a large group of people who cannot be defined by the actions of a few.
Homelessness IS a problem for the rest of us to sort out. I would like to live in a society where we look after each other, the homeless, addicts and all other vulnerable people in our society have ended up in a shit situation and need some help. As a society we should help them because we live in communities and are not separate entities.
Your idea of assigning blame is an interesting one and one echoed by others on this thread. You complain that those of us showing some compassion are suggesting that it is not their fault whilst you and Somerset appear to to placing all the blame on them. This, in the vast majority of cases with most people who end up in dire straits just does not do justice to the complexity of the situation. The victims here suffer from a combination of poor choices and circumstances colliding to for their current outcome. It is just too simple to blame (or not blame) them for their predicament as the ratio of combination is different for each and every individual.
Personally it serves me far better to thank my lucky stars that life hasn't conspired to deal me the shitty hand and poor choices that end in such circumstances than to condemn someone for their poor choices that may or may not be worse than some of the choices I have made.
You are of course right that i don't invite them into my home but i do give them a couple of quid when i can (or a tin of dog food) and have a natter if i have time. Interestingly i have never been spat at by anyone or robbed by a homeless person. Karma perhaps?
