may go, hope the muslims dont try and f*** it up again.

They are the successor regiment to the Royal Sussex Regiment and they are Freemen of Lewes.

The old comrades of the Royal Sussex Regimental Association had a rather splendid bust-up a few years back with one of our favourite Lewes DC councillors, the lovely Marina Pepper.

HOMECOMING PARADE

Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment

Thursday 16th July 2009
12:20pm to 1:15pm

The Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment (successors to the Royal Sussex Regiment) will exercise their Freedom of the Borough by marching through the centre of Lewes, the ancient County Town, to mark their very recent return from active service in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is a very rare ceremonial event, which has happened only three times since 1953 (1991 being the last occasion), and will be attended by a host of civic guests including the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff of the County and a number of Mayors representing other Sussex towns.

There will be a short disruption to the flow of vehicles through the town-centre during the march, including traffic diversions for a few minutes, but we trust that this will be accepted as a minor inconvenience.

We hope that as many people as possible will join us along the route to welcome home these brave soldiers who have unhesitatingly upheld the long-standing traditions and reputation of the British Army in the defence of freedom.

Lewes is proud to mark their homecoming.

Cllr Amanda Dean
Mayor of Lewes

That's going to make it difficult to get my sandwich from either the Castle or Crumbs on Thursday! I see that Lewes DC have only a fleeting reference to this on their website (buried in the what's on). You'd think that they might want to promote this a bit more - especially as it goes past their door.
