I watched Holroyd carefully in the second half today when he was playing towards us....yes he was pointing where he wanted the ball and in the past i've often thought he was making intelligent runs....but having seen the passes he is expecting the midefielders to make it isn't surprising he doesnt get put in....his runs are all wrong....they go in a direction where it is nigh on impossible to get the ball through to him....have reserved my judgement for a long time but am now convinced that based on his current game he is not a player we need.

Again a user name that suggests knows a Richard tiltman when sees one, and I fully agree with this assessment. In fact my brother and I were doing the same this pm and said exactly the same

OK, now it's generally agreed the boy's a dud at this level, the focus turns to how Gus deals with it. In particular how he deals with having to cut his losses.

Of course the key question is: does Gus think he's a dud at this level? Not having been around for the last few games, I'm not in a position to judge. But by all accounts Hoyte has put in improved performances recently and has got the manager's public backing, so maybe, just maybe, Gus also sees something in Holroyd that the cognoscenti don't.

I've said it before, I'll probably say it again, but why do people think that wingers are just crap strikers?

:lolol:

I just think he has more attributes that I would assign to a winger than a striker. He has pace, can cross and links the play well.

He just isn't a very convincing striker (at least as a lone front man...)

If I were Gus I would loan him out to a League 2 side next year.
There is no way that Holroyd should even be on the bench let alone playing in the first team. What 12 games (admittedly not full games) but has scored no goals & created very little. If he stays around much longer then he will go down in Albion folklore as one of the worst Albion forwards of all time.

When we are looking to go up next year & have shipped reasonable players such as Cox & Virgo away, there is no argument to retain him is there?

So ship him off aka Davies, Dickinson etc & of course we could always recall him.
However, I would be really disapointed if he was at the Albion in August.

Holroyd's main problem today was he only made runs straight down the middle, not once did he make the two center backs stretch as he he never arced his run or provide and option in the channel which meant any progress abruptly came to a standstill. it also meant every time he was muscled of the ball

He makes Jonny Dixon look like an ace player.
