Holroyd scores

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
Once again he has shown that he has found the level at which he will prosper.

He plays regularly at that level - he has never played regularly for us. I don't think there is a huge gulf in class between the two leagues. Plenty of strikers make the grade in League Two and do well in League One.

Off the top of my head...

Glenn Murray. Nathan Tyson. Grant Holt. Bobby Zamora. Craig Mackail-Smith. Brett Pitman. Aaron Maclean. Rickie Lambert. Phil Jevons. Steve Howard. Dougie Freedman.

I think that he would score as many goals in Div 2 as he would make appearances for a Div 1 side in a season. None the less good luck to him at Bury and for the future and getting a new contract somewhere.

Every other striker we ever had under Poyet managed to adapt and nick the odd goal. Somehow Holroyd always managed to keep a clean sheet. A half-decent striker, or even one with promise, would have imposed himself on some game, somewhere down the line, and BARGED his way into the reckoning. Holroyd never did. And never will at this level, let alone the next level up.

Oh well, onwards and upwards

Kurt Nogan went 20 games without scroing for us, was he a shit player who was no good? All good strikers can go on a baron run, and it wont be helped by only making short & infrequent appearances.

Holroyd has never had a regular run in the side, he needed a goal but as more games have passed the further his confidence level has dropped. He looks like he could be a good player for us given time but its down to Poyet whether we keep him or not, if he thinks he can get him to fit in with our style of play and produce then i have no problem with him staying and i would support the player and hope he can deliver on his potential.

How long did it take fans on here and at the ground to accept players like El Abd as being good enough and stop slagging the player off? Maybe given time Holroyd could surprise the doubters too.

It does give you confidence in a debate when you see Steve Foster, Tom Hark and Ben's Grandad all arguing the opposite view.

This is EXACTLY what I was about to say.

If he was that shit, he wouldn't score for fun the minute he rocks up at a loan club just one division below ours. Gus will surely be impressed with his attitude and if he can see anything in Holroyd then I expect him to be a squad player next season even in the championship. He won't be on a big wage, he is still very young and is probably going to be worth a punt. It's worth pointing out how many people didn't rate Glenn Murray barely 18 months ago.

Oh look, Tom Hark's name has popped up again.

Do people think Holroyd would score as many goals as Craig Davies if he took his place for Chesterfield this season?

Just for the record I have rated Glenn Murray very highly from when he scored his first goal for us and I said to Ben then he will be our next BZ. I am also sure that Holroyd will carve out a succesful career in Div 2 but think that is his limit.

He may well be half decent in L1 in right system etc. but we are going onwards and upwards and for me he'll never make it with us. Hopefully has a decent league career though.

As big a fan of Holroyd as I am, I have come to the conclusion the above is probably true.

He will end up a GOOD league One striker, in a side far more suited to his style than us. He DOES need to bulk up more as well, shame as he is the sort of player who would probably flourish in a country with a less physical league, he is a neat and skilful little player.

Guess some people just know a dud when they see one

And some people just write shit like this: 'He DOES need to bulk up more as well, shame as he is the sort of player who would probably flourish in a country with a less physical league'
